Today, a kid in my band died. Everyone was super depressed. It was really unexpected; I don't know how to deal with it at all. He was such a great guy too. Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! What happened?

I am so sorry. My ex boyfriends mom died about two years ago. It was right after we broke up. I was so upset. I went to the visitation but did not get a chance to go to the funeral. The sad thing is...the other day I was cleaning out my desk and I found the note he wrote me that said his mom was dying and she would not last very much longer. It was really sad. I still cry when I read it. I am the kind of person who thinks about the future a lot. Well I decided if I were to die when I am in high school, I want my high school band to play my favorite song in the world at my funeral...American Elegy.

He had pneumonia. He hadn't been at school in like a month. I saw him a week before he died, because he came to our concert. His condition had been really rollarcoaster-ey. On saturday, a week ago, he went to the hospital. Tuesday night, he got moved into ICU. While he was sleeping, he had a blood clot.
What I feel the worst about is that, at the beginning of the year, we were pretty tight. As marching ended and the year progressed, we drifted. Through our brokeness, the band helps one another. It was a high price to pay, but everyone appreciates another so much more.
1frodos1-- how is the guard girl?

during winterguard rehearsal last night, a girl fell and dislocated her kneecap. she's out for the rest of the season which includes our circuit championships and wgi world championships in dayton. she's a junior, so we're all hoping she'll be fine by the time marching band starts.

My sophomore year, a baritone player died. She had spina bifida, and was undergoing surgery for some reason. Well, her lung got punctured, and it just went downhill. Her parents eventually took her off life support, and the day after, my head band director broke down trying to talk about her, and the associate, who was really attached to her, was wiping his tears with his sleeves. The whole colorguard was crying; it was a big weeklong sobfest.
Unfortunately, some teacher (doesn't even deserve the title of human being), when asked if he was wearing pink for her, told one of her friends he was wearing pink underwear. It took all of the kid's strength and threat of expulsion to not kill him.

Like I think about what my bd would do if one of our members died. It is wierd. But I am sorry to here that...

My freshmen year, last year, me and 3 older band menses got in a car accident on our way to school and we all got hurt. The driver broke her wrist and bruised her back (oboe player), one person bit through their lip (snare player), someone bruised their back and knees (drum captain), and I popped my shoulder out of place, bruised internal organs, sprained both wrists and messed up my back (mellophone/ French horn player). My injuries were worse because I was in the passenger front seat and I was smacked by the airbag and I am really small compared to the two seniors and junior. We all had to take off a week or two from marching because of our backs. And another time I popped my knee marching a parade. Let's just say I bring a lot of braces to camp. :P

A seventh grader got really sick all of a sudden one day last week. She died yesterday. She was a horn player, and was going to try out for All-District this weekend. She went to a middle school that doesn't feed into our high school, but my director went to that middle school and is really good friends with their director. Stuff like that really makes you think...today in band while he was talking about it he said he couldn't stand the thought of walking into the band room one day and seeing one of our empty chairs, knowing we would never sit there again. I bawled shamelessly. As far as other things go, I nearly fainted twice, once at a competition and once at a football game. Turns out I'm hypoglycemic. I suppose that's one way to find out.

One of our color guard was killed in a drunk driving accident. We honored her by having the color guard carry purple flags and we wore purple ribbons on our shoulder. (Purple was her favorite color) Her twin sisters are in my grade, and they were definitely hit hard.
