My seventh grade year, our band director had a stroke two days after the Christmas Parade. It was really devastating.
And my eighth grade year, our bass clarinetist's brother was killed in a car accident. Someone was going too fast and traffic was stalled by road construction. It was really sad.

It was really depressing today because our bd was telling us about an alumn that graduated in 2003. He kept on using past tense like:
"She wasn't proficient on trumpet or flute, but she was dedicated." "She was number three in the class." "She got a degree in computer analysis at Cal Tech." "She got a job in San Francisco."
She jumped off the Golden Gate Bridge.

^Yikes... I'm really sorry to hear that...
Last year when a girl at my school (not in band) committed suicide, our BD gave us a long talk about how he'd always be there and stuff like that for us. It was good to know he'd do that for us.
Well, to stay on topic, one of our tuba players was late for practice before a competition this fall, so he got his tuba, started running to the practice field, tripped on the curb, messed up his knee, and bent up the tuba... Yeah....

Last year, there was a car accident with a band trailer (not our school, thankfully). One of the drummers died. Also, one of our mellophone players last year got into an auto accident (she has this HUGE scar on her back), and couldn't march for about a month or two, but was able to march in the end, thankfully. Luckily no deaths yet.

Welp... One of our bass drummers was in a motorcycle wreck last night. They took him to the hospital, and they said that he is responsive, but there is some bleeding in the brain. What did my band do to make us deserve thissssss? ARRRRRG. He's probably going to have to have quite a bit of therapy...which should make his senior year SUPER fun.

My band director's dad died last night. I've seen my BD sick and and I've seen him cry when his kids graduated... but this was on a new level. It broke my heart when I was called into his office- for something totally insignificant- and I told him that if he needed anything... it hurt.

One of our Senior Drumline was in a car acident last night. He is in ICU. The rumors of what hapened range from his friend[also on DL] was driving and he[the one in ICU] jumped on his hood to that they were car-surfing. He has no?[or very little..but I think its none] brain activity. Were collecting cans to help pay for his bill. Our band family just needs to stick together. Everyone was crying today it was so sad. Like you walked in the bandroom and it was so quite [band kids arent quiet]. I really didn't talk to this kid much but he wasn't mean to me like 1/4 of the other band kids.

we had a snare player die, and the drumers wore this pin in honor of him. it was cool that they did that.
at state last year a kid blew out his lung holding this note from his solo out so long. (trumpet player, go figure. hehe) He is all better now and ready for another year!

A member from our drumline community died in a car accident this year, and their band changed their show to remember them. I just teared up every time I saw that show.
On a lighter note, a cymbal player got stiches a few days ago as something messed up and he got a cymbal to the eye. We had a kid break his arm from skateboarding at a sectional, and just people (me) passing out constantly. Nothing else, besides some peopl getting depressed and almost dropping school.

Sadly, on August 11, 2008 one of the freshmen trumpet players passed away. I don't know how though but I think he had a heart condition He was only [glow=red,2,300]14 YEARS OLD!!!! [/glow]Sence he was a member of the trumpet section and I happen to play trumpet, I was absolutely devastated. I know I'm an alumni but it still hurts as if I were still a student. I just couldn't believe it. This is the first time we had a death in the band. He would of been 15 as of yesterday. RIP Alex Weckesser September 19, 1993- August 11, 2008
