A girl who played percussion in our pit my junior year was killed in a accident involving a drunk driver. When I visited my old high school it was pretty crazy. Not a lot of people particularly liked her, and it definetly woke people up to treating people more fairly.
We've never had really injuries in our band. Someone had mono for all of band season (STRICT policy of no sharing instruments that season, haha) ... many knee injuries and sprains but nothing major.

At the beginning of the year, a freshman was hit really really badly by a car while crossing a busy street and he cracked his skull. He missed about a month of school. Luckily though, he was okay and came back able to finish marching season and play his role in our school play. (He had a pretty big part!)

While I've been here we've had a trumpet player get a bad case of hypothermia at homecoming, a band parent severely spraining her ankle at a compeition from losing her balance in the bleachers trying to get a decent picture and a flag twisting her ankle in a pothole. Before my time, one of the trumpet players broke his nose and lost some teeth doing the Trumpet Guillotine Death Squad during a compeition.
In the years that my band director has been there, he said there have been 9 deaths in the band and he went to speak at every funeral. Sad thing, One of the girls used to go to my church and died when her and her brother were on a road trip and he fell asleep at the wheel when I was 4. I just vaguely remember her, not much, just that she was always nice to me...

I voted "other" because we've had both. My junior year a guard girl got hit by a car (she's fine now), and just yesterday one of our drill instructors died of cancer. He had been with our band for 23 years, and he'll be missed dearly.

Whoa ... I think I know what you are talking about. Do you know which dorm it was? If its the one I was thinking of, it was a girl who died due to an interaction with her medication and the fact she got seizures. She lived in the dorm next to mine ... it was reaaaaally freaky.

Hmm, we also had one of our tuba players get hit by a car. The Tuba ended up with more damage then him though. Messed up his knee a bit, but nothing major.

Last summer, almost exactly a year ago, a low brass player was hit by a car on his bike, and died later that day. He would've graduated this year.
An 8th grader (so he wasn't technically in my band, but he was going to be this coming year) died from a heart condition.
Terrible horrible things.
Then minor injuries, like twisted ankles (while marching on to the competition field, no less) and dislocated knees.

It has been exactly one year since my friend Matthew died. One year ago, he was riding four wheelers with a friend, and a car collided with them. He went through the cars windshield and broke his neck.

we had a percussionist kid get hit in the face by a high-speed baseball straight out of a batting cage pitching marchine, he worked at the batting cage place. He's ok now, though it messed up his face/nose a bunch. this was more than a year ago though so he's all healed now.

There have been maybe 4 deaths in my school, but none in Band. I think the worst thing that happened last year was that one our best tubas had broken his collar bone, and was out for quite a while. The year before that, another great tuba [and also one of my best friends] had thrown out his back really badly.
That's all I really know of, though.
