There are some really good blank verse poems but few. I love the comparison to modern art though. It's very true.

In modern times, it would appear that there is a trend towards a shotgun method of information transfer--throw everything out at once, and you get a few hits. Granted, you get the word out faster that way, but it also means you get a lot of dumb stuff.

Agreed. It's why I can't stand Charles Dickens. Too many words, get to the point, but I think with poetry it should take time to write and decent thought 9like any other writing, but with poetry you just don't throw things together...it's thought out, precise.)
I don't know, I'm kind of a nerd about writing. Lol

I meant on a grander scale. Like, back in the day, if you wanted anyone to read your stuff, you had to go through publishing channels. Now, Soulja Boy made the big time with nothing but a camera and a MySpace. It's a different world.

Yeah, I can remember a time when I was one of the few kids at my school who had internet... and then we were early on getting DSL too...it's for my dad's job, he uses it a lot. I loved playing the mouse game back on the old desktop we had with Windows 95- I was in preschool at this point.

I found this definition of sophomore on Urban Dictionary pretty entertaining:
4. sophomore
The forgotten year of high school. The freshmen are busy being freshmen: preppy girls freaking out about every grade they get, others just being generally immature. The juniors are busy with homework, and trying to get better grades so they can go to college. The seniors are busy partying and generally having a good time. No one really cares about the sophomores. In conversations with adults, when you tell them that you are a sophomore, they have nothing to say to you. It's not "a big change from middle school", you havent started thinking about colleges, and you havent applied to colleges. And thats all adults care about. Contributing to the suckyness is the fact that you have 2 more years after this one, and for a year the only thing you are looking foreward to is getting your license, which you feel you are thisclose to getting for the entire year.
Adult: What grade are you in? Freshman: I'm a freshman. Adult: Do you like high school? Is it very different from junior high school? Are you getting good grades?
Adult: What grade are you in? Junior: I'm a junior. Adult: What's your GPA? Have you started thinking about colleges? Are you bringing your grades up so you can get into college?
Adult: What grade are you in? Senior: I'm a senior. Adult: What colleges did you apply to? What do you want to major in?
Adult: What grade are you in? Sophomore: I'm a sophomore. Adult: Oh. (has nothing else to say)
Kid: What grade are you in? Sophomore: I'm a sophomore. Kid: Oh, that sucks for you.

^ Yeah, tell me about it. The only "big" things about sophomore year are 1. you aren't a fish any longer and 2. drivers license (which isn't a perk for me because I have a SUMMER B-DAY. yech.) You already know your way around the school but for the most part you aren't senior enough to have a leadership post (exceptions being rather rampant on this forum, Oscar and myself included.) I guess the worst part was, out of the 4 sophys we had in my section last year, 2 were really awful to the freshmen and enjoyed abusing their borderline seniority. Anyway.

I wish I had a summer birthday...I turn 16 Feburary of my junior year. I am going to kill the DMV if they don't give me my permit the second I turn 15.
You guys don't see the hidden joys of being a sophomore though. No more being freshman, but no responsibility either! The best of both worlds, if you ask me. Worst of both worlds if you ask any fish/upperclassmen

That was a lovely definition.
Not particularly looking forward to anything sophmore-related. As many people have posted before, one of the only perks is that you're no longer a fish. ... Unless you are dubbed "Eternal Fish" by the seniors.
The sophmores in our section were actually pretty nice. One of them was actually one of the sweetest people I've ever met.

^Most of our flute sophys were cool too. Does anyone remember the old Oregon Trail computer game?

I miss that game SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much!
Chuck Norris never dies when playing the Oregon Trail. He kills everyone else. (I can't remember the real joke, I just know it was Chuck Norris and Oregon Trail.)
I loved it.
I'm not overly excited about Sophomore year, although I do want school to hurry up and start. I just want to get the year, including PSAT over with for now...

Never played it. Heard of it, but never played it.
Chuck Norris and Oregon Trail. That's an interesting combination. XD
