Let's see about my band....(Some of our band actually fits our stereotypes...)
Trumpets: The perverted ones. French horn: The smart ones (brass). Trombones: anything you can think of. (too many different kinds of people...) Baritones: Snotty and prideful (in a bad way) Tubas: Just plain weird. (brass) Flutes/Piccs: Annoying, preppy... Clarinets: The smart ones (woodwinds). Saxes: Crazy, crazy, and crazy... Pit: Nice, mild-mannered people Drumline: Opposite of above. Guard: Even more annoying and preppy than flutes....and more drama.
Those are the stereotypes among our band. We only half-fit it. our trumpets are the stereotype typical trumpets, and a few of the other section have their share of true stereotypical people.

lol sooo our guard is definitely NOT preppy for the most part. most threw fits when the idea of a pink flag came up. we have about the same (if not less) drama then the band lol.

Yeah.. but seriously, In my band, woodwind players have hated me for NO reason, and they barely even know me... im standing around talking to my section buddy people or getting my instrument or just walking down a hallway and they would pass me with this air of..meanness and usually a conceited glare- its kinda shocking actually. And i never did anything to them that they could possibly have that attitude towards me, and i've always tried to be the nicest person EVER. During band camp it scared them that a trumpet player was so nice to them. And at a game, we had to use the restrooms really bad and i went with 3 flute girls. One is like my bestest buddy ever, and the second one was somewhat nice, but the third one was..Soooo mean. Like she started talking crap about my section in f-ing front of me. And she was being a byotch to me just cause im in a certain frikin section. That pissed me off. >:[ a lot. But good thing shes graduating next year.
ah stereotypes arent always that great.

I'm really sorry to hear that happen to you! Stereotypes really do force people to judge you wrong. Sometimes they can be real funny, but when used wrong, they hurt bad!

Baritones ... snooty and prideful? hahahahhaha. Thats funny that your bands baritones are like that
we are just fat and drink lots of beer pretty much.
And occasionally remember that we have to play after 40 measures of rest.
Can i say beer on here? lol

Trumpets: Super egos with a knack for making mischief. I love them to death. <3 Trombones: Lazy. Similar to the Sousas. Baritones: Fun and very witty. Clarinets: Intelligent overachievers, but polite. Flutes: Too-happy to be normal, mostly girls. Drumline: Insane and rude, but not rude enought to earn the band's hatrid. Percussion/Pit: Similar to the saxes, but work so much harder. Colorguard: Insane and....insane? Loud and slightly off. French Horns: Intelligent, but normal, somewhat uppity. Saxes: Mellow, yet...cool cats. almost fused with the DL in some cases.

Trumpets: Loud, obnoxious, and egotistical, but we love them anyway Clarinets: Polar opposite- super-quiet, though generally a friendly bunch Saxes: The "popular kids" Trombones: Just a tad bit on the eccentric side Baritones: the "sketchy" section, lots of drinking Horns: Tend to stick together Tubas: the REALLY "sketchy" section Guard: "loose", although very few of them actually are Drumline: sort of off in their own little world Piccolos: Strangely enough, no one has ever been able to come up with a working stereotype for us- we're just kind of "there"

I think the stereotypes have a teensy bit of merit mostly as it is common that instruments attract people with similar tastes and usually smiler personalities, ie drummers, often the guys (not meaning male, its a general term, at least in my neck of the woods) who like hitting stuff have a more... boisterous personality, leading to the conclusion: perc=LOUD, obnoxious. I think it also has to do with the region you're from. At least here, the mellos are "chill" while the baritones can be petty. Mostly my school matches the stereotypes, the Piccs are girly, the drummers, stoners (except my brother, he knows I'd - if I ever even caught wind of him so much as looking), the flutes, easy (mind you I am NOT a marching flute, my picc was broken for most of the season), the T-bones, perverts. We're all pretty typical right down to the trumpets' enormous egos.

For me, it's completely different depending on which band (concert or symphonic) you're looking at. In my band (symphonic), it's like: flutes: quiet clarinets: quiet saxes: quiet trumpets: quiet trombones: quiet...... ......... etc...... Everyone is quiet and are serious about what they are doing, so I can't get much of what their personalities really are. Here's the concert band which is better cuz I know the people in concert better than the people in symphonic because symphonic is mostly upperclassmen vs. me a lower: flutes: prepy, think they know everything (they don't) clarinets: happy saxes: think they're always right trumpets: loud horns: nice low brass: just there perc: trouble makers

I think most of the concert band stereotypes fit my band's stereotypes. However, the percussionists don't cause much trouble. They're nice.

My guard has the stereotype of being full of gay people, but really, only two of us are, and we're dating each other. People make jokes about all the stuff that goes on in the guard closet (ok, I sleep in there during my off period. yeah, we change in there.) Typical "closet" jokes. *sigh*
