Clarinet solo, Brahms' Sonata in F minor for clarinet and piano: III I deserved this score. I worked hard, but I did something stupid before that screwed me up, which was using a not-broken-in reed that I wasn't quite ready for instead of something I'd get a response with. And it wasn't that great before, partially because I didn't have enough help, in my opinion. Ah, well. I did give myself a III, and it was an A-piece (hardest level). Plus, it's just what one person thinks. I know what I can do, and all it did was make me want to try harder, but not just because I got a III, but because a couple things I kind of thought I needed to work on are now tangible. I'm taking this well, and I'm even a little pleased with it. The flute judge who listened to me told my BD that I had very good tone (I was shooting for that with the reed) and that it was an interesting piece. She also said she was impressed with my accompanist. Sax Quartet, Two Modern Saxophone Quartets by Jack End: I I love sax ensemble music. It's so neat and interesting and cool. ;D This made my BD's day, I think. The judge seemed to really like it. He had stuff like "BRAVO!" written on our comment sheet. He was nodding and while we were playing, which was cool when I saw it because I felt encouraged. It was pretty magical, especially considering some drama our bari saxophonist (freshman ) was making beforehand.

^yes, you did break it, but is it compeatly your fault? I apparently am doing solo ensemble this year, I didn't want to, but we are doing a big group (me and bariclaribob included)

^and you have to do a solo too!!!
I'm doing a solo this year, no groups, on April 13th. I'm horrible at solos.

^I don't think I'll do my solo for solo/ensemble... and truth be told, I don't want to the woodwind ensemble for it either. If it were on clarinet, I'd have no qualms (well, some, but not as many as I do), but on oboe? Gosh, I'm horrible at it to start with, plus I haven't played it since last May for Carmen, and it was so out of tune...

I just got back from states and Kes and I got a I on our duet. but that's not half as exciting as the 97 (a I) I got on my solo. ;D it was only proficiency 1, but hey. it's a 97.

i am doing solo ensemble tom, so not ready.
I have an easy solo, and an ensemble, but i do not want to do it.
I will probably get a III (oh, and at our solo/ens I is the worst and V is the best
I am playing tenor, i am much better at flute, but i have a terrible flute, plus another girl is doing the same solo that i was going to do, and i dont want her to be mad at me if i did better than her

Okay. Solo Ensemble was yesterday. I got a superior. The scoring scale is poor-fair-good-excellent-superior, but instead of embarrassing people and giving them a poor they make that the same as fair. All the band groups from our school got either an excellent or a superior.
The judge guy was really nice, but I thought he died during my performance. It was about 8 minutes long, so frankly, I wouldn't have been surprised if he had. Whenever I glanced up at him, his head looked plastered to the desk, his eyes were closed, and he wasn't moving at all.
He didn't have too many critiques for me--speed up the main theme a little if I want, work out a little embouchre difficulty that caused me to slow down, try and keep my higher range from going sharp, and don't hesitate so much during the cadenza.
I could have pointed out dozens more mistakes than he did--faulty alternate fingerings making me throw off the rhythm, my drastic slowing down at a part labeled con passione making me fall behind the accompaniment (thank goodness he found where I was), my squeaks (twice, I've been told), my shallow, nervous breathing, my sweaty fingers making my sixteenth note triplets a little shaking, my purple hands (don't ask). I could go on, but I don't think that'll be necessary.
I'm just happy it's all over!

My brother is going to solo/ensemble today. He's doing a saxophone trio with two of his friends. Actually, it might be a quartet... I can't remember. But yeah, he'll be performing in about 30 minutes, so when he gets home I'll let you know how it went!
EDIT: My brother did a trio with two of his friends, and they got a 1! Yay!

I had solo/ens on friday, and i got an E (not an S which is the best) because my stupid accompaniast (SP) DROPPED HIS MUSIC! when he finally picked it up, he was 8 measures off and it took himm another 8 to find his place
