^agree on that.
but trumpets can play triple G's loudly, and that's high too! if you use enough air and face muscles.
so yeah... i dont like violins either. You have to be really good and try to make it sound pretty and everything. Other wise it = ew.

=( my poor piccolo I hate it that everyone is just like "its too high pitched" when people can actually make it sound really pretty. Geez, how come no one makes fun of tuba or contrabass cuz it's too low? Its always the piccolo being made fun of. No wonder my band like hates me.
And my least favorite is most definitely piano, cuz I just can't get the hang of it, and I NEED to.

Oh, and also. None of your are tough enough to play it cuz all you do is whine about it! SO HA. One point for me. I have to defend my piccoloplayingness.

That is, I could kill you with my oboe. It'd be a lot harder with an english horn. And bassoon? You just can't. So piccolos scare me. And as far as making fun of low instruments go, it's true that if you go low enough things just soundy muddy and garbly, but it won't ever hurt. Ever. Piccolo will. Even good players have there moments...

Ever had a tuba in your ear? I'm guessing that's a no because it hurts. And since piccolo players don't exactly play the extremely high notes that much (C, Bb, B, sometimes A, Ab), it shouldn't really bother many people, especially since when they're playing, they're probably on the field, or on the end. The only time it should bother you, is when someone comes right up to you, and plays super C right in your ear. Other then that, when do you hear it? Maybe your piccolo players just like bothering you, but hearing the piccolo while your playing it, and listening to someone else play it, are two different things.

I have had 2 tubas in my ear for a whole year and it didn't hurt half as much as the piccolo across the band for a day. It's also the pitch tendencies on a piccolo that can be a problem--my understanding is they're perpetually off and very hard to tune (possibly because the tuner doesn't go that high ). Also, piccolo players on the whole are incredibly easy to set off, as you've demonstrated, no offense, so some of the abuse you get in rl may be for fun. I personally enjoy screaming "ow!" whenever the piccolo tunes. By the way, I don't believe any of us are trying to bait you, I'm just saying that that is a probable cause for the crap you get at school. It's a really easy target, and band kids are vicious. I also agree that a well-played piccolo can sound beautiful, but one sour note will completely ruin it, whereas on a baritone or a tuba, one note off is barely noticeable. I suppose it's the difference between the tightrope walker and the people who do flips and tricks and such on the ground--both mess up about the same, but with the tightrope, it's much easier to tell.

Where I hear a picc all the time: sitting next to me in band class.
Remember also that when I say soprano instruments are dangerous, I'm including my own. Oboes also get a lot of grief for similar reasons: it's really hard to play pretty. And even though it's not as high, oboe a lot more overtones, so when you're out of tune it clashes like none other. Peace?

I don't like uber-low pedal tones and instruments that are pitched really low because all you hear is vibrations and splatty grossness that sounds like unpleasant body functions.
I also don't like soprano clarinets because they have a thin, whiny tone that only sounds good when it's been properly tamed.

well, the pedal tones on tuba sound good only when you play it with a LOUD bell tone [which is kinda hard actually]. Then you can usually distinguish the note. Yeah it's not the prettiest sound, but i love it, playing with that huge sound and everything. It makes me feel like a man ;] haha tubas are STUDLY.
and yeah i dont like soprano saxes cause they sound all whiny as bcb says with clarinets. =P

I LOVE soprano saxes. When the top band did "what a beautiful world," they had a video of luis armstrong singing it in the backround and had a guest soprano sax player and it was amazingly beautiful. Alto saxes are ok, when you have one. When you have 10 against 3 horns...oi....luckly next year there are 6 horns and 6 altos in top band
