Here's an excerpt I wrote about the history of the forums:
Another part of the website that has gained in popularity the past few years is the forum. I won't EVEN go into how many forms it's gone through - I'm guessing probably seven iterations? I think I first put up a board in 1998 or so. It's gone from using Matt's Message Board to WebBB to yaBB to phpBB to phpBB/PhpNuke back to standalone phpBB and now Proboards. It's a running joke at this point about replacing the board's format every year or so. Ah well. People come and go as they move through their music and school careers, so it's been very interesting seeing people "graduate" from TFBC. But I hope that you all stick around!

I took a hiatus if you will and when I came back, I was surprised to see how true this is. It feels kinda empty without some of the old people. And then I'm read posts from the new kids that are freshmen in high school, and I wonder if I'm getting too old...

It's so weird, I'm only 18 and a freshman in college, and yet I feel like I'm a geezer. I've been here forever. Like stickshifty said, there seem to be "classes" of TFBC, as if we were graduating. First I remember the highly respected moderators, like The_Horn, brassdancer, and TheMellophoneGirl (who needs to come back here, dangit! I talk to her on AIM/Facebook every now and then), and other older people like blue_bassoon, musicscifigirl, etc. Then came the chat room. I fondly remember spending many a night after a Friday football game in the chat room with Dorky Sax or Fried Rice, talking about crashing on each other's couches. Haha. I think that was when we started to get a lot more activity on the boards. I actually had a screenshot of the old board because I madethe 2,000th post in a thread or something. Why I thought that was important at the time is beyond me. I deleted it, though. And lastly, it seems to me like "my class" (graduated high school in 2008 or around there) is the class that's kind of fading out right now because we're busy college freshmen/sophomores. We're the most active posters and have been consistently so since about the time the boards switched over (God, I remember how we all were like, "NO! MY POSTS! for about a week, and then came on here 24 to try to redeem our totals, haha). Ninja Baker, dueloftheflutes, Flutist Kes, Greenepony, stickshifty, myself, and etc. And then you have newer folks who are here a lot like oscarisamazing, Not-A-Stalker, and bariclaribob and such. It is so much fun to see new people come through! Even though college saps a lot of free time (and, as much as I hate to say it, some of my desire to come here, since college band is so much different than high school band), I don't think I'll ever forget TFBC, or forget to stop back every so often. I've met two or three people from TFBC at drum corps shows or marching band competitions, which to me, speaks for the incredible bond we have here, and always will. Anyone remember the Estrogen room? All I can ever really recall being discussed there was FriedRice's bra size (I think it was FriedRice anyway...) HAHAHAHA. YES. We had that so that all the girls could go vent about female stuff. Wasn't there a warning on it like, "Proceed with catuion: there may be discussion about tampons," or something like that. I also remember, with some sense of pride, that I was the one who introduced the Game boards to the Up, Left, Down Game, which I stole from another forum. We had SO MANY threads like that... not to mention the great legacy of characters like STD Man, Tide-To-Go Man, the Pink Llama, bariclaribob's "She-Man Thumb," and all the rest in he Random Voting Threads.

What has happened to Scott Benson ?
And Mo! The EMU trombonist who I haven't talked to in forever. Don't remember her screen name.

Haha, those were the other two people I was thinking of! I didn't know where to mention Scott because he came in in that second phase, I think, but he's a great moderator. And yeah, I forgot about Mo. we played Central Michigan this year and I was like, "Wasn't there a trombonist who went there?" I couldn't remember if it was CMU or EMU.

When we've left the boards, are people going to be making threads wondering where we are?!

When we've left the boards, are people going to be making threads wondering where we are?! Should we be aiming for that? ;D

When I joined this board I was a lame freshman, reading treble clef, wondering how I was going to make it through Smith's "Into the Storm"....wow....

I would like to think that if I went AWOL for a month people would start wondering what happened to me... ah yes... SaxGirl and my "class" of TFBC posters... I like to think that we were the "troublemaking youngsters" for a while. I feel old now... seeing all the high school freshmen starting to post here now.

So are we now the cranky old geezers sitting on the porch with the shotgun yelling at all the young hooligans to get off our lawns?
