I'm leaving 2 or 3 days to drive down. I am not up to driving 26 hours straight- it just isn't happening. Band camp starts the 18th, Welcome Week (campus wide thing) the 21st, and classes start the 25th.

For Marshall, classes start 3rd week of August, but band starts 2nd week. However, where I'm actually in the drumline now, they start first week of August. So I'll be at school two weeks before anybody else.Oh boy, right?

^That's kind of scary. I don't think our drumline even has to head down that early.
How much are you guys heading home during the school year? From the looks of it I can only go home over Christmas break for a little less then a month.

I can go home pretty much whenever I want to, since I live 30 minutes from campus. However, I don't want to go home very often. I'll be back for five days for Thanksgiving, basically a month for Winter Break, five-seven days for Spring Break (don't remember exactly), and summer. They kick us out of the dorms for most breaks (definitely Winter Break). I'm also going home the weekend of Sept 13th because it's my birthday weekend. Have you guys registered for courses yet? I did last week then changed my schedule again yesterday and I'm actually really happy with it: CPSP118J-- Media, Self & Society Colloquium. Th 3:30-4:50 (1.00 credit) HIST157-- US History since 1865. MW 10-10:50, Th 11-11:50 (3.00 credits) MATH220-- Elementary Calculus I. TuTh 9:30-10:45, M 12-12:50 (3.00 credits) PSYC355-- Developmental Psychology. MW 3-4:15 (3.00 credits) SOCY100-- Intro to Sociology. TuTh 12:30-1:45 (3.00 credits) SPAN301-- Advanced Grammar & Composition I. MWF 11-11:50 (3.00 credits) I'm happy that I only have one class on Fridays and that none of my classes are too ridiculously early. I was hoping to postpone all of them past ten, but I can deal with a twice a week 9:30 class. I'm kind of scared of failing everything since I passed into the upper levels for a lot of the stuff thanks to AP credits.

From the looks of it I can only go home over Christmas break for a little less then a month. Me too pretty much. I mean, go home to see my mom in Texas. My dad's only 90 minutes away, so it's not that bad. It'll just be hard to go home and see my mom. These are my classes thus far: CHEM 131-0101 LEC (83811) MoWeFr 8:00AM - 8:50AM Physics/Chemistry 2116 CHEM 135L-0902 LAB (80225) Th 1:00PM - 2:00PM Health and Human Services 2210 Th 2:00PM - 3:50PM Location: TBA GCOM 123-0003 LEC (83089) TuTh 5:00PM - 6:15PM Harrison Hall 1241 MATH 235-0009 LEC (87101) MoWeFr 12:20PM - 1:10PM Burruss Hall 0126 Th 11:00AM - 12:15PM Burruss Hall 0032

^Sleep? What's that?
I'm surprised how much drama has been here, I thought we were supposed to leave that in high school?
And I seriously, enormously miss home. Like a crazy amount.

Sleep? What?
I suppose things are going well. I'm balancing my school work with having a social life. But school work keeps my social life restricted to night time. Hence why my friend and I drove 2 hours to Richmond to go clubbing on a Wednesday night, getting back to campus at 4.30 am. Wort every second though.
Theres not too much drama, except for the all too common drama that surrounds the gay community. *shrug* I thought it was supposed to be left in high school too, but whatever.

I'm having an awesome time! Maryland is the perfect school for me. The workload is TERRIBLE, but my classes are interesting. The social life is pretty great here; there's always something to do. I love the football games! And since the fourth (or fifth?) time's the charm, sleep?! What?!

My college is pretty cool. I like the band here- we march and play at the same time! I still love my high school band- I go back and visit all the time- but it's nice to see "the other side."
Classes are pretty decent, and my social life is fun. But I've decided that frat parties (at least at my school) pretty much suck. It's an excuse to get drunk and fall off staircases.
My only problem is wrestling with this feeling that I should be going to U of Michigan for Nuclear Engineering. I would have to transfer, and I would spend an extra year in college for it... is that worth it? I can't get a Nuclear Engineering degree where I'm at. The closest I can go is General Chemistry. So is paying about $30,000-$40,000 more worth it? Is transfering worth it? I would be starting over, giving up band (there's no way I can make the Michigan Marching Band)... I just don't know.

With most majors, the average time to graduate is 5 years. So no, it wouldn't be a terrible thing. And if you can afford the $$, then go for it. About the marching band...why do you say that you wouldn't make the band? Marching band is marching band. Most marching bands (however "good") accept pretty much anyone as long as they can show that they can play their instruments.

I'm kinda torn over this. After I got to Marshall I realized that I don't really like music as much as I thought I did and I changed my major to Political Science...I chose Marshall over Ferrum because of the music program. Its a damn good department. But I'm not a music major anymore, and the Poli Sci section of the school just sucks.Abosolutly sucks.I got curious and looked at Appalachian State again and they have one of the best poli sci departments in my region aside from JMU and such.I really want to get a better education,it was my #1 school, and I can actually get in this time. I've just made so many friends here and experienced so much that I don't really want to go...but I do.Decisions. And I really do miss sleep.I get about 4 hours a night now. As for drama,I purposely keep myself away from it.I refuse to let it get to me.Haha.

Most marching bands (however "good") accept pretty much anyone as long as they can show that they can play their instruments. I find it funny, though, that I could graduate it 3 to 3 and a half years with a degree in Chemistry... You'd think I could do four or four and a half with engineering. And I don't know if you know the Unievristy of Michigan Marching Band, but ehre are my thoughts: there are only 28 piccolos in the band. (20 actually march halftime; I think 12 march pre-game; the other 8 are reserves.) That may seem like a lot, and it is, but when you compare it to the 100 or so who try out... and I'm not the best. I rarely play pic, and I have tone problems. Not to mention I don't know if I could handle the physical part of it. It's INTENSE, compared to my college band I'm in now. So I don't think I would make it.
