Because we're Senior now, not Juniors, we need a new thread. And we definately need a place to rant and question our Senior worries and quests. Like, for example, being one of the only Seniors who does not have her driver's license. So, who's started college searching? My parents have been getting on my case lately. It's not like I have no idea what-so-ever on what I want to do (I'm seventeen, I want to sleep 'til noon, that's what I want) or where I want to go. But apparently, if I do not have a set major, I may be stuck at community college for two years... not fun. I don't want to leave home, but I don't want to be stuck here either. It's really funny, too, 'cause my mom keeps going on about how she's not going to be able to pay for U of M ($10,000 tuition in-state), but she has me looking at schools like Hillsdale (which I think was $25,000).

I'm totally ready to rant and rave. OH EIGHT!!!
I have my drivers license *whew* but it's expired now. So I have to renew it.
I've started the college search. I'm looking into the University of Virginia and I dream of going to Duke or Stanford (but I can't afford them, and I'm not confident I would be accepted). Texas A&M has offered me a $12,000 scholarship, so I'm considering them too. But I'm so ready to leave Texas (and the weather) behind).
I want to study Chemistry in college, and design rocket propellants. *smugness*

Yay 08! Though senior year won't be without its trials (stupid apps in the fall!), I'm just SO glad we're not juniors anymore. Last year really tested my endurance. My classes are significantly more interesting next year and a little easier. I opened up a lot more freetime by quitting marching band. I have an amazing internship and I'm taking a college course. No more SATs! I finally have my license (I got it the day my permit expired, heh)! There is NO way next year can't be awesome. I have some ideas of what colleges I like on paper, but I really haven't done any visits. I was ridiculously busy with band and work activities during the school year, and I got sick on the day I was supposed to visit Delaware. Sighh. So apart from spending a few random days on campus at Maryland throughout my life (both of my parents went there, and there were alumni activity-ish things) and one day at JMU for a flute thing, I really don't have a good sense of many colleges. I'm trying to visit Delaware, Elon, JMU again, and a few others that I have to narrow down. My problem is that I'm not picky ENOUGH with what I prefer, so I'm hoping visiting will really give me a sense of whether or not I like the atmosphere. I'll also probably end up going to the school that offers me the most amount of money; unfortunately, that will probably be Maryland. If I get a full ride anywhere that would be AMAZING! AP scores should be coming in soon...uhhh...I really didn't prepare enough. I'm scared to see what I got, but at the same time I don't want to wait any longer. I'm pretty sure I want to major in English and be a teacher or work in editing/publishing. Psychology interests me too, though... [/randomness]

OH man, I forgot about incoming AP scores...
I got my SAT Subject Test scores back. 640 in Math level 1 and 680 in Chemistry. Not as well as I wanted to, but still ok.
I'm retaking the SAT to try to improve my 2040 score.

My dad apparently had his first "my daughter is leaving home soon" freakout last night. (He was away on business, but he told my mom and I that he couldn't sleep because of it.) Pennsylvania has a huge amount of terrific schools (Pitt, PSU, Penn, IUP, Slippery Rock, Clarion, Grove City,The Art Institue, Drexel, Temple, the list goes on and on...), but I'm really not all that interested in them. Other than Pitt, at least. But, Pitt won't do anything for me - it has neither an art or very much of a music program, and though I've decided that I most likely I won't minor in music (and could still be in the Panther Marching Band), it's not worth it. No art program, no attendance from me. But, as my mom mentioned, even if I go to a place like IUP or Pitt that isn't more than 20 minutes to two hours away, I still won't be at home. My dad is a very smart man, and he surely understands this, but hopefully my entire senior year won't send him into a depressing paternal downward spiral. Therefore, I've narrowed my decisions down to Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN), Indiana University (The main campus is in Bloomington, IN), Kent State University (Kent, OH), and University of Illinois (Champaign-Urbana, IL). None of those are even close to where I live right now, with the exception of KSU, which is only about 90 minutes away. My family was talking to some of my cousins' friends at a graduation party the other day, and someone turned us on to Penn State. I had never really wanted to go there... but it is probably a good option. And my problem is, as I'm sure many of us on TFBC will concur, is that I still want to be in marching band in college. I want to major in art and minor in something other than music (probably business or political science), but still get that "Big Ten" experience (or SEC, or Big 12, or whatever). I'm visiting Vanderbilt next week (and might get to drive a fifth of the long 10-hour trek! Yay!), so hopefully that will give my dad some reassurance. I've heard nothing but great things about Nashville and the campus, and I keep getting mail. It's just ridiculous what some colleges ask for, and I'm worried that I'm not up to par. Our salutatorian from this year's class is going to VU, and I'm just scraping the top 10.2% of my class. ... when are the AP test scores coming back? I want to see if I got a 3 on the APUSH test! Ahhh! I need to take the SATs again, too. I'm worried that an 1800 isn't good enough (definitely not for a school like Vanderbilt... I just reach their minimums on Math). I think a 2000 or 2100 is within my range. Being 16 is so CONFUSING!

So your dad had the "parental freak out" too? My mom had that this summer. We're giving spending time apart a try (I'm spending the summer with my dad) and it's not working so well for her. We were barely apart 3 weeks and she finally gave in and came to see me and spend the day just hanging out. How's me going to college supposed to be work out? I'm more worried for her than for me.
I hope that my parents get over it. Otherwise, we'll never survive.

Indiana University (The main campus is in Bloomington, IN) That campus is so pretty, and the MAC is amazing.

It was a happy day last year, but I'm really not feeling it on this year's-- English Language, Psychology, and World History. Ughhh. I'm sure you can get around a 2000-- you strike me as a hard-working/intelligent person. I was disappointed the first time around with my SATs, since they were in the 1800s as well. Somehow I went up a lot without doing anything.

It's not so much as my parents going through shock, it's me. I don't think I want to grow up. And it's so frusterating, becase I AM only a teenager (and a naaive one at that). How am I supposed to know what I want to do for the next fifty years? As for AP scores... I could totally see mine coming in July 22nd, the day I leave for Florida, and not being able to read them 'til August 1st...

As far as colleges go,I'm just looking around my general area.Among the top contenders are:
Marshall University(Huntington,WV) Radford University(Radford,VA) West Virginia University(Morgantown,WV) Appalachian State University(Boone,NC) and Roanke College(Salem,VA)
My little list is a bit weird though. It ranges from colleges 3 hours away,to one that I live 20 minutes away from.Right now I'm just searching around right now,but I really have my heart set on Marshall since I already know many people up there(through the band).I have the SAT scores to get into it,but my GPA is still a bit iffy on it.I should be fine, but to be safe I think I'm gunna work a wee bit harder than normal this year.
As for my intended major/minor...I've talked it over to a couple of people(Band director, distance coach) and I think I'm pretty much set on Majoring in Physical Education/Coaching and minoring in Percussive Arts, just so I can still be involved in music somehow.

I've got my driver's liscense. :-\ I just hate driving.
As far as college, I'm thinking something in the state.
U of M(Twin Cities or Duluth), SCSU, etc.

I don't like it too much either-- I've noticed more than ever how many idiots there are on the road. But I like getting to listen to my music in the car and the absence of my mom nagging me and the added convenience. ;D

Somehow I went up a lot without doing anything. Why thank you! I think my determination is going to get me through my senior year; hopefully I can boost those scores. I think it really just depends when you take the test. The 1800 was my best score to date, and the day I took them was the only time when I took the SATs/ACTs that I wasn't sick as a dog. That's really not fantastic for concentration... Hey Kes, don't feel bad, I can get my driver's license in two days, and I only have about 8 out of 55 hours on my learner's permit. I also got in a minor fender bender today (I hate making mistakes, and though I have so little experience, it still really ticked me off; it was my own stupid fault), but other than that, I'm doing well. Really, though, many of my friends don't have their licenses. Some don't even have their permits.

so being a senior is way more stressful than i anticipated. ugh, so much to do. I've looked at the top two schools that i want to go to. Florida State University and University of Central Florida. Both very lovely, FSU is my top pick. I've taken both the SAT and the ACT. Did much better on the ACT. my SAT score was not too fantastic. With my ACT score I did get 75% of my college tuition paid for by the state. I also have pre-paid college, so I'm pretty set. I have been having periodic "senior freak out moments". Besides all the preparation stuff, it seems that socially, life has also become different. Anyone else feel that way? People are just acting different. Its weirding me out. I believe thats it for the moment. I will surely be back
