"Ah traditions, traditions. Without our traditions we'll be as shakey as... as a fiddler on the roof!"
Sorry, just had to quote that
Anyways, our traditions: The Trumpet Section decorates our trumpets at our annual xmas concert, Choir always does a massage train before a performance Pit Orchestra does some hi-jinks in the bi-annual musical (two years ago, in fiddler, we replaced all the water the actors were supposed to drink with wine, so that it would fit the script. Also, then they were stage spitting, they got some help from the pit. *squirt*)

^I love fiddler! We always do the same warm-ups before each parade, and then at any gathering when we feel like doing something fun.

We do figure 8's with our hips. Lmao. One day we actually stood outside.... And like me and 4 other people were just standing there doing our 8's and I was just bein dumb and I'm like "I'mma be a reble and do a figure 9."
So after that we went from 1-10 making shapes by waving our hips. Lmao it was strange.

Hmm...this isn't really a tradition...well...it did happen everyday.
See, our band room is in the HS. Its about a 3 minute walk across the parking lot from the Jr. High, so everyday, the BD came to pick us up, and we walked over for band class. The guys always tried to be big and bad and would spit on the ground. But see, I have a really weak stomach. Like REALLY REALLY weak. And so everyday, I would see--and hear-- them spit, and walk to the band room literally gagging and fighting the puke rising in my throat.

ah! Marching Band traditions!
Every year, the senior boys and senior girls agree on which one of the two gender groups gets the Senior Cabin Theme, and the gender that is chosen gets to pick a certain theme to put in their "senior cabin" of that gender and that cabin only. And my Marching Band girls' cabi's tradition is always to have Dance Showdown Night every last night of the Marcihng Band camp and that night is Ice Cream Night Time Dessert Night for the entire Marching Band after our night time practice before going to bed, and it's usually around 11 at night by the time we have the snack.

At my old high school, we always played Medusa on the very last day of band camp. I don't know how common the game is, but it's where you stand at attention forever. If you break attention, you get to go around to everyone else and try to get them to laugh or something. It's always interesting when it gets down to about ten people, and you have the students who have already lost doing some crazy things to try and get the finalists to smile or something.

At the end of every hall march, each section does a short break down. We also do a whole group breakdown after every rehearsal. It's a thing where the drum majors yell stuff at us and we yell back the answers (it's like an actual routine) and it's really fast and really really loud. We also wear our hats backwards if we win the football game. and we have a ton of band camp traditions that are really fun.

Before rushing the field for postgame, the Barituba section (baritones and tubas, obviously) gather around and scream "FROM THE HEART!" (our section motto) and run to the field and set after all other sections are finished (unless its a set in which the tubas HAVE to be there first)
For first and second quarter we dont sit down.
We always play a round of the Beer Song, typically twice. As well as No Leaf Clover.
(as an entire band)
We sing "Amazing Grace" to patrons who pay for our food, or the homeshow's school.
Play Amazing Grace after every show we do.

^Massages are NOT good times... *shudders*... That's one of the only things that I don't miss about the saxophone section. You'd think the trombones would be worse, but we don't like touching. At all. There's four girls in the low brass section including myself, and except for maybe one of them, we would gladly break your legs on contact if anyone touches us. Traditions... I forgot about sectional traditions until brassdancer mentioned that the Barittubas stand for the 1st and 2nd quarter. In musical sectionals, trombones and baritones never sit. Ever. We aren't allowed because it's a sign of weakness. We also have meager breaks compared to the woodwinds, except for the mellophones, who always seem to get jipped (how the heck do you spell that anyway?) in the breaks department...

. When our dance team- after our practice with them- says "Thank you band" we say "Thank you dance team!" instead of "You're welcome."
2. Under normal circumstances, nobody can eat in the band hall/ auditorium. But, uniform crew gets an exception when we're stuck passing out uniforms. Like.. uniform assignment day we all had drinks in there all morning. But we couldn't eat. But on game/competition days, we eat and drink both.
3. Senior Wills- the day after graduation when Seniors pass down something of signifigance to them.
4. "Hand Checks" on the bus- even during the day.
5. Wearing marching shoes during school on game days where we wear uniforms.
6. Travel uniform all day on Game Days- including spandex under jeans
