I go to Katy High School. We are tradition central. Most of it is really stupid stuff about seniority and the football team, but we do have a few things... End of Practice Chant: DM:WHERE WE FROM? B:KATY!!! DM:WHO'S THE BEST? B: KATY!!! DM: WHY? All: BECAUSE WE WORKED HARDER THAN WE DID THE DAY BFORE!!!! UHHHHHH!!! The TBN- "Tiger Band News" basically an "on the bus to the game " publication thingy that gives us an opportunity to be really random. I draw cartoons, write a column and put TFBC comics in there. I also made a birthday card for a friend with TFBC comics The Wave: ALL instruments The Fight Song: I can play it BACKWARDS!!! Does that give you a hint? Persons of the Week: Guard, Spirit, Marcher, Fish The drum cadence 69 Diner- We play it right after we get into the stadium. We ROCK OUT! The dances are crazy. Hey Baby: In the 4th quarter of every game. We play, sing and do kickline. And all sorts of intersectional borderline cult stuff that no one wants to get into And...my favorite... the annual end of year game of Trombone Toss!

At senior night / homecoming the middle schoolers come to watch the band/ march out with us to the field. We get free food and there are red/blue balloons everywhere so tubas/drumline attach the balloons to their instruments and march the show like that at halftime. The seniors also wear really crazy hats which they wear instead of the shakos and march the show and everything like that as well. Then my section would dance in the stands all the time; it was fun as heck. xD Also during very memorable events, such as competitions, the last rehearsal, etc. we'd do a section group hug/handshake thing and put our hands in and scream '1, 2, 3, [initials of last 3 section leaders including our sl this year]!!' that always got us pumped. haha =]

hm, let's see. at band camp, there's a lot of freshman traditions -- *freshman and sometimes new people have to go through morning meditation with the sergeant at arms. it involves playing breaking the ice games, drill-downs, running, getting used to being at school at 6:45 for zero period, and getting to know what band is like at our school. *freshman have to wear a certain item up at band camp. this year, we had to wear fuzzy hats...and a diaper over our clothes. not only did we hate it, but our band director hated it too. xP *freshman have to eat with something all week that makes it hard to eat until they get initiated. this year, we ate with those tiny little plastic swords. *freshman are expected to have a senior slave. and it really depends on who you get. sometimes they can be nice and they won't make you do much of anything. sometimes they're just plain evil. *on the night of initiation, the freshman have to dress up for dinner and depending on their master, perform a skit for the band. my skit is on youtube. :x *on the first night of band camp, the seniors have their pinecone ceremony. they say a few words of wisdom to the band, and then throw a metaphorical pinecone into the fire. there are lots of tears involved. *on the second night of band camp, the freshman and newbies have their "what i'm famous for" campfire, which kind of explains itself. *on the last night of band camp, there's a little ceremony that we have in the temple where the entire band rehearses. the section leaders pick one person who they deem person of the week at band camp. *also, on the last night of band camp, we PARTY! :] there's ice cream for everyone, but the seniors get pizza. and they stay up all night doing crazy things. they also play loudly in the other cabins as a group. *and of course, there's initiation, which i won't give away at all. ahhh band camp. good times. other traditions! *during marching season, the seniors would play a part of malaguena, which was part of their show in their freshman year. *the clarinet section leader goes up to each player and clashes heads with them for good luck. *in our section, we kiss our pinkies and kind of lock them together for good luck. *it's also common for sections to make jackets that are based on the theme of the show. *in our section, we do a secret santa up at band camp, but it didn't really happen this year because our section leader is trying to kill our traditions. >.> that's all i can think of for now...

At my school, there's one BIG tradition. Whenever the bd is gone and we have a substitute, we have to play our pep band tunes. After we play "Freeze Frame", all the freshmen have to stand up and play it by themselves. Tons of the freshmen hate it, but I absolutely love it =]

~Clarinet huddle. For when we get into competition finals only. We get into a huddle and just... talk. We also kind of do this can-can thing... hard to explain. ~Dog tags. Our BDs and DMs buy all of us dog tags with our names, the show, our instrument, and the year. We just started this tradition my freshman year. ~Our dismissal. it's very similar to fluteophone's, only every so slightly different in the end, whereas we say: Eyes! With Pride! EYES!!! WITH PRIDE!!! Loveland Crimson Regiment, DISMISSED! *Yelling and screaming* ~Night before State Finals. We get in this series of circles. The Seniors are on the inside of the Juniors, who are inside the Sophomores, who are inside the Freshmen. The seniors pass around a big candle with all their names on it, and talk about their experience in marching band. We also all get our own candles, and the seniors pass the flame through the rest of the band. Then, we also have 3 other big candles with the other classes names on them. This night is also called Cry Night. Started my freshmen year.
Those are the ones I can remember off the top of my head. I've also noticed that most of our traditions started my freshmen year. xD

Our traditions are the rookie rock, which you give out every day of band camp to a freshman who has worked the hardest, it is a rock from our old field that they had to tear down to build the new football field. Then there is the spirit stick which is given out every day of band camp to the section that has worked the hardest. Never walk... which is when we all get into a big circle and play You'll Never Walk Alone, there is never a dry eye after that. and at the last day of band camp the freshman get to sit in the circle, and on the last football game of the year the seniors get to sit in it. Senior night is just the last football game of the season, the seniors get every thing they want, even if they ask a freshman to do something really really weird for them. And at band cam the dm's and section leaders have to eat last but the seniors get to eat first. and last but not least is our chant we do it before every football game and after every practice. BD: Heals Everyone: Together BD: Toes Everyone: Apart BD: Stomach Everyone: IN BD: Chest Everyone: Out BD: Shoulders Everyone: Back BD: Chin Everyone: PRIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEE. I'm sure we have more but I can't think of they right now.

- Rookie Auction - The Band Camp Tuesday after lunch event where the seniors bid for their band camp rookies, proceeds go to fund something, out of principle there isn't much competition since most rookies are "claimed" on Monday - Senior-Rookie water battle- more like massacre, this year we (the seniors) used an industrial pressure washer borrowed from a local construction company owned by a kids family - Sax Sack, Tenor Tub, Bone Bucket- various containers sections use to hold "their" candy during games, passed from senior to senior - Baritone Barbie- piece offering from (I believe) the trumpets to the Baritones years ago and has been passed down from year to year - "Like a Fat Kid on a Cupcake"- The slogan on every year's clarinet shirts -The Maces/ Halloween Costume Pieces- Passed through each year between DMs - Clarinet Brownies- Of dubious origin, a box is passed form senior to senior - The Perc "Rooster"- a kid in my brother's class got a stuffed rooster, we're pretty sure our BD threw it out finally - the Passing of the Drum Head- they pass a head-thing between senior to freshmen, I don't get it, I don't want to - Perc ... very *friendly* person (they use a nastier term)- They just sort of pick a girl, usually the one least likely to either complain to the BD or beat them up, yet again I don't really want to know - the Huddle- before every performance after warming up we crowd around our BD and he gives us our news, this also at the end of every band practice -Senior Bus- the Bus that only seniors are allowed on, except this year where some seniors branched off so they could all fit together and so some freshmen had to sit with them

How could I have forgotten?
The annual drumline butt-race. It's pretty much this thing where we slide down the back bleachers during the intermission at finals. Our quad section leader has won the past couple years...

So i posted my band traditions my freshman year. So now that my sophomore year is over, im gonna post the traditions of this year. they kinda changed.
-Well when we get our plumes on, we all smack eachother in the face with our hat/plume until we get in trouble with the bd. -we still do the trumpet prayer as indicated as before. [we get in a circle and pray. always praying that "god, let the trumpets pwn tonight".] -we put our black glove [we wear one black glove and one white glove] in the middle of the circle and yell random things. our favorite was "uh-oh oh-no trumpets!" -the sectionleaders did this weird thing to check if our had was on right. its hard to explain. -once we got our hats on, i always smacked down on the top of each of the freshman's hat. -when we got on the field, a senior stood behind me and he always had to smack my butt for good luck. ALWAYS. -we did the rollercoster. where like 2 or 3 people got in the front and showed us which ways we were going and we acted like we were on the rollercoster. it was really fun and the parents always gave us the funniest looks.
wow, there are SSOO many more traditions i could sit here forever and type. but i dont think i can take it, im crying. i know im a big wimp but im changing schools and im going to miss everything. :[

We have a good time at competition/games.
-we pray before every game -we have a certain hand shake that everyone does -we all have a necklace that represents unity and we have beads on it for each show we have been in. I fsomeone does not have theres on during a performance...it is just a superstition. The shoe lace is hard to explain.

in mine, there's always been an UBER small mello/saxophone section. for the past two years (i'm a sophomore this year, so it all started last year) we've combined our mello and sax section...the mellaxophones. there's about four of us. two each. we are small and mighty. and one of my best friends (a senior. -sniff-) always leads a group of us in a prayer before we perform. we don't really have that many traditions really...but on the way home from away games, our director ususally rides the bus me and my friends are on and we have a freaking hilarious bus ride home. like, our last football game, i was laughing so hard i fell backwards in my seat and hit my head on the window. i kept laughing and almost fell on the floor. yeah. it was that great of a bus ride.
after a game, win or loose, we march out in parade block, then form one huge line and our director wraps us into a spiral. we stand there for a moment to take it all in, then he leads us in a long scream and then he says "we are the ultimate!" and then we all respond, "rock rockin it! rock rockin it!" and then the drumline does a few thingies and then we get a break and our director tells us how we did. then we end with singing our school's alma mater, off key. i rather like this one.
does any one else have super crazy band directors? ours has got to be off his rocker. lol. and he's not even all that old.
