Maybe there's one floating around, but I haven't found any specific jazz band threads. So here's one. Share your jazz band experiences, music, questions, etc., I guess.
Have any of you ever heard of or played these songs:
Two Seconds to Midnight - by Alan Baylock Channel One Suite - (i forget, but the Buddy Rich version is amazing)
These are some of my favorite songs that I have played in jazz band in the past. What are yours?

I LOVE JAZZ BAND!
It's what I live for in the marching offseason. I have a few favorite songs:
Groovin' Hard - Buddy Rich (his version is the best) In the Mood - Glenn Miller Fowl Play - (don't remember) Cut to the Chase - (also don't remember)

Ah, same here! Jazz band is my nonmarching life!
I love pretty much anything that Buddy Rich and his band have done. I have played both Groovin hard and In the Mood. Awesome sax songs!
Has anyone played or heard Chameleon? It was the most amazing song I played in 7th grade....and I've been in love with it ever since. It was the first song I learned to solo on.

Chameleon! Awesome song, but we kind of screwed it up at concert in 8th grade. Our band was sort of not so good, and we actually had to stop in the middle of the concert and start over.
Buddy Rich is an amazing drummer, and I love playing his stuff too. Are you good at improv solos? I'm learning.

I'm learning, too. My lesson teacher and I work on it a lot. I'm pretty good at blues and Chameleon style improv. But I still have a ways to go. I'm probably going to go to a jazz band camp this summer to help with that.

We're playing this really uptempo song in jazz band right now called Jazz-Me-Blues. When I say uptempo, I mean REALLY REALLY uptempo. The saxes have this practically 16th note melody, than all these little fills. It is so much fun to play......but somewhat exhausting.

Chameleon is pretty much the signature song of our jazz band- they all play it, all the time... I learned it, but my schedule ended up leaving me out of the jazz band- which isn't actually a class at our school, just a group of people who can get together at some point to practice and once in a while do a show or two. LAME...

I LOVE jazz. our music this year isn't the greatest, but it works. & usually I play alto, but due to lack of a pianist, I've volunteered for the trip...
but anyways, what we're playing this year... New Orleans Midnight Down Roberto's Way (some nasty chords in the piano part...) Blues Dues

I like the really weird keys for blues improv.....like concert Db and B. Because eventually, Bb blues gets really old....unless your using it for Chameleon. Dude, no, that was MY 7th and 8th grade jazz band's theme song. And we kept playing it even after my director took our music away. Last year, it was not uncommon for half the jazz band to randomly break out in Chameleon. This would happen during concert band class, too. We drove other people crazy.....

I don't like Bb or F blues, you're right too easy. I like concert D (one of the songs we're playing) and also G. I'm sick of my band director using Bb, Eb and F for everything...
I also like the non-blues improv stuff, although there was this one 8-bar solo that kept screwing me up because I thought there were four more bars.

Yeah, sometimes I have that embarrassing problem.....of not knowing when my solo ends!
I actually play Tenor 2 in jazz band this year because I am a freshman and the first tenor is a senior and he is amazing, so I don't get any solos. He does, though. Let me tell you, the Tenor 2 part can really suck. But, I am happy just to have made jazz band because I'm the only freshy and people told me that I probably wouldn't get in because of that.

Yeah, I'm alto 1 again this year, but it's on the second band. I was quite upset when I didn't make Jazz I, but it's not so bad now because I get lots of solos and I shouldn't expect to get in anyway as I'm only a sophomore.
About, not knowing when the solo ends, we played this really fast thing last year for concert and during my solo I got lost, so I kept playing and went 2 bars longer than I should have xD

Oh, your school has more than one band? My school used to have two, a "varsity" and a "jv" , but now therei s only one. And there are 13 seniors in it. We're losing a lot of talent next year, but we'll also lose a lot of the senioritis, which I am happy to be rid of
