any time i had a really bad day at school i would try to get out of an afternoon class and sneek into the band room...i would head straight for the practice room where my tbone is set up and just play like theres no tomorrow. i always felt so much better. and the day would only get better too b/c i had band the last two pds. of the day. Haha I would get in trouble in high school for doing that. Thing is, I had A's in all my classes, so my teachers weren't willing to do more than say, "school comes before music" haha.

Playing my flute is the only thing that fixes everything. I go off into my own world when I play, and in that world, everything is absolutely perfect.

I play piano a lot at those times, yeah (and yes, piano isn't in band, but I've played it for 14 years ) and I can play almost anything on it, so if I get mad, I go and play angry music! it doesn't help, but it's something. ;_; lol

When I'm sad, yeah because knowing I can do something and then doing it well makes me feel better. When I'm angry, no, because when I'm in that mood I notice all the problems with my playing, which makes me more frustrated and angry

piano makes me feel more balanced. but bassoon (if its a good reed day) makes me the happiest person in band for some reason.. farting beposts are good for somethings.

I have to agree with enjoithetrumpets09. My trumpet makes the world better. If I'm really angry, I'll play something really high and really fast, or a lower part up an octave, and my director will be like "why don't you play like that in class?" I'm never that angry in class. When I've had a terrible day, and I'm getting depressed, the solo parts of Jazz Band ballads are awesome. And when I'm happy I pull out the 16th note runs or something equally fast, upbeat and light. Raw emotion only helps my playing, except when I'm already frustrated, because then if something doesn't sound right I just feel even worse and start to get more frustrated.

I normally can get lost in a practice room whenever I'm upset. I lost about 3-4 hours one night and didn't even realize it .. it felt amazing .. and I got all of my solos and etudes up to lesson-worthy! There's really nothing more soothing than playing a euphonium in the basement of Cogswell ... mmm.

I find more and more I'm comforted when playing my bassoon, even when I'm in a good frame of mind. I truly could sit and play my instrument all day every day and be content. After my initial music ed. degree I'm seriously considering getting my masters in bassoon preformance.

I remember a day where I was completely... all sorts of things, mostly stressed confused and kind of angry. I ended up going up to my room, and then I figured something out by ear on my oboe. I was quite a bit better afterward. Also, there's a song on piano I keep memorized for times when I need to play it, just to play it. It's just so pretty...

Yeah, My flute helps me chill. It's soothing to just play long tones in the lower register, nothing above middle c, just from middle c down to low c.
