This is not an unusual thing for me to do actually, I mean it makes me feel soooo much better if I'm in a bad mood and I've had a horrible day and I can pick up my flute and actually accommplish something I've been trying to do with it for a while, because I get to let out all my fustration into doing something well. It's a good way to take your mind off things if you're really bothered by something.

If I'm in a bad mood, usually I find my brace and completely kill the grass on our lawn with my rifle. I'm also guilty of going to the band room during study hall on "one of those days". Normally if I try to play oboe when I'm mad, I end up breaking a reed. But when I'm really bored or depressed, oboe makes me feel so much better...doing improv in minor keys or playing the clarinet part to On a Hymnsong of Phillip Bliss really makes me feel better when I'm depressed...that's pretty much what I did after this guy in my band died...just played Non Nobis Domine and Phillip Bliss over and over...

I don't alot, i usually draw. But when drawing doesn't do the trick I then play my oboe. It's soothing.

My clarinet, Desperado, is in my mind a person. When I am upset, angry, sad, etc. . . . I pick him up and play music, which speaks words. (I know, it sounds insane). Even though I will be doing Guard at AU, I will still play Desperado. My clarinet is and has, and will be my best friend, and the comfort of my life. I dunno what I would have done if I didn't start picking up my instrument nine years ago. But, one thing is for sure: it will be difficult not to play it in the stands, but my clarinet will still be there with me in my heart.

Negative emotions (positive ones too, but moreso negative) of mine gets released on the piano, and I've come up with quite a few very intriging pieces that I composed while angry or depressed. I find that it's a great way to reflect on yourself.

Same here. I always play my piano when I'm upset. Hey I have a joke: What do you get when you drop a piano down a mine shaft?

Whenever I get depressed I usually start playing my flute. Mainly one song (Bratja) cause I know lyrics for that song and the song itself is sad. Main reasons I don't play my oboe or tuba is cause that would get me frustrated cause I never pratice my oboe (which reminds me....I should) and tuba I try to hard on so it's not a good way to feel better,

I probably play my best when I'm upset, because I'm focusing more on my emotions rather than playing everything correctly, which in turn makes my playing more musical. It's definately a great stress reliever.
Edit: I can't spell.

When I'm mad, angry, sad, ect. i like to hug my horn; If I play when I'm upset then I won't support at all and my tone will go way down hill.

I can say I never pick up my horn when I am angry or frustrated...it tends to get conveyed in my playing...and my sound suffers from all the anger...I can definatly coment on the emotion I was asked to play at my Great Grandmothers funeral with a trio...we did amazing grace. I can say every bit of sorrow I felt was conveyed to the people in the church. Playing after that also helped me to deal with the loss as well. Funny...I generally sound BETTER when I'm angry, or in an emotional sort of state
