^weird....
My vent: My band sucks right now. We have a football game friday and we don't even have half the show on the field yet, plus we haven't taught the freshman to play the SSB and march in/off the field.
also, people are immature.

^I understand the feeling
Quartermaster=gives people uniforms, writes down who has which. Not keeps track of where you put your uniform and whether somebody stole your shoes. I exploded today, finally, and it was at the two people who've been the most helpful because everyone else had, predictably, left. They throw their uniforms in any random corner and yell at me when they don't have them, or hang them up and forget where and blame me. what the??

I woke up today unable to stop crying because my eye hurt. I went into urgent care and discovered that my cornea was inflamed in both eyes and I just have to wait about three weeks for it to get better. Now I have to take eye drops four times a day, and my eyes still haven't stopped watering. I feel perfectly fine thanks to the drops, but I can't go anywhere without people staring at my eyes and asking if I'm okay.

Because I marched with sopping wet shoes several times this season the adhesive that was holding the risers to my orthodontics wore away so now I have to use my 'new' orthodontics that don't fit right. Hello sore hips, knees and ankles! And limping. Just what I want, to limp through the first show in full uniform...

So I'm angry at myself. It's so annoying having to remember/learn new study hall rules under new bds. First bd was cool with anything. Anything. Last year said only practicers allowed in practice rooms, quiet in theory room, no one on the couch, you could play school instruments if you were supervised by someone who played those instruments.
So today, I went into a practice room and a baritone player was teaching me scales on a crappy old marching baritone. Bd sees me and oboe and baritone playing the baritones, and he got mad. He didn't yell or anything, but he told us to quit messing around with school equipment. We were like, "But [baritone] is here," thinking he just didn't see him, but he was like, "I don't care. Baritones are for baritones only."
I don't know why this bothers me so much. I guess it's because that's what I'd call getting in trouble, and as a pretty much goody-goody-NHS-I-never-get-in-trouble kinda kid, it made me angry and scared of getting in trouble.
I don't think he's too mad though... I mean, he wouldn't write me up for this, would he? Would this cost me potential section leadership or drum majorship? Would that be "being irresponsible?" I mean, it's the 2nd full week of school and he hadn't said anything before.
Gosh, now I'm worried. I could throw away my future as a bd by not getting sl and therefore not getting dm because I had to play a Bb scale on baritone.
Dang you, bcb.

So we were supposed to go to our first competition this Saturday. Our BD scheduled us a week and a half before the deadline. The school hosting it called him today saying they already had too many bands, so they dropped us. So now we have practice from 10-6 on Saturday, and we don't go to our first competition now until October 4. That has NEVER happened. It sucks, a lot.

I have concluded that college boys are idiots who do not need my attention what so ever. I'm thinking suppressing is a great coping mechanism.
Head? Meet Wall.

Now, Greene, I know what you're going through, but do me a favor and listen to me closely You're in your fourth week of college EVER. Yes, there are a lot of idiots there, especially at this age, but, believe me, it'll start to get a bit easier once you get farther in. Some, as rare as they are, actually do mature as they get older, and this is the best time to catch them.

^ I just resisted the urge to say "Yeah, exactly. Spacermase turned out just fine, right?" (cue giggle and run tactics). Anyways, Greenepony, I'm sure he'll mature in time. and if not, then he's probably not worth it.
So, I just found out that Oct 11, I have THREE performances. Richmond, Hannover and Oakton. UUGGGG!!! Too much band!

Okay so we have limited visitation hours in my hall, my roommate knows this. On a Tuesday evening guess who shows up?! My roommate with a boy in tow! Grrr. Not like I can just say "You know, he can't be here. He needs to leave." Well I could but that would totally ruin things for the rest of the semester. What makes so much better is he tries to be all friendly and chat me up about my "Spirit" poster. Oh man, that ain't nothing. My roommate asked if when her boyfriend comes down for the weekend in a couple weeks, if he can spend the night in the dorm room. I can't just come straight out say, heck no. but it needs to be said. it irks me that she even thought about it, and irks me even more that she asked me. people aren't allowed (technically) to have people of the opposite sex spend the night in their room...obviously. Do you guys make roommate contracts? You can mention that you're not comfortable with that when you're writing the contract. It is so weird to me to hear about schools with limited visitation. Maryland couldn't care less who you have in your dorm and when as long as you're not disrupting anyone else.

We've got a pretty crazy stretch coming up in October- three home games in a row. Considering how demanding they are on us (I don't know what it's like for you all, but for us it's a minimum 48 hour time commitment, effectively), it's going to be tough.

Yeah, you think you have it bad...mine are spread over a weeks time.=( Saturday: Exhibition at Spring Valley Competition. After we perform we hop on a bus and go to Indiana. Sunday: Halftime performance for Indianapolis Colts Tuesday: Exhibition at Kanawah Co.Band Festival Saturday: WVU Vs. Marshall AT Morganhole. I say thats a hell week if ya ask me. On a totally (kind of) unrelated note, you go to Marshall? My bestest friend is a psychology major there... she was considering being in marching band, but as I have her clarinet, you can probably guess she wasn't that motivated. But anyways, for my rant... well, it's one I've done many times before: the "I hate my band" rant, lol. So, we have our concert music now. 4th hour isn't too terrible. Yes, I did play (much) harder music over the summer, but it's not to the point where I feel like I'm in middle school in band class. And besides, I play horn in that band, and there's always something for me to try to improve on horn. But in 6th hour, all I can do is think about how much the music is a waste of my time. That's the thing I hate about myself: I have to do these music camps and stuff over the summer, or else I'll never forgive myself for denying myself the opportunity. But over the summer, I get better, and sometimes a lot better, while everyone else stays the same. So by the time I get back to hs band, I wonder why I'm even there. But the thing I hate the worst about it is that I can't do anything about it. I can't quit (for multiple reasons), and I can't switch instruments (which is what I really want to do). What I understand is that our band can use all the help it can get. What I don't understand is why I have to help if I'm not motivated to help? On flute, I'm not. On percussion, horn, etc., I am. I have to be constantly challenging myself, and I do that by learning every instrument I can get my hands on. It motivates me, and puts me in a drastically better mood than I am when I'm stuck on flute. The flute section can handle being without me: they did perfectly fine last year. I'm willing to help them out with whatever they need (which I also did last year), but my being in the section serves no purpose for both myself and the band. I was bored with 6th hour band's music before I was even allowed in, and that was 3 years ago. So how am I supposed to suck it up and just deal with it?
