hmm. well you could use our saying "give more head" meaning look up farther. make sure they aren't "performing to the floor". we get our girls to make an L with their hand and stick their thumb in the middle of their throats. it shows where the head should be. sortof. umm tell them to "follow" the flag with their head. another things is to have them put the music on their ipods or something and listen to it a lot, imagining themselves performing it. as the girls go through the season, their performance should improve. mostly freshman don't perform as well because they're still "out of their comfort zone".
btw moe how's your season going??
oo oo. so our first competition was a snow-out which is crazy for georgia. [[we went and performed twice for the judges who critiqued us but there was no retreat.]] second show at kell high school, we got second place[[beat by east coweta]] third show at chapel hill high school, we got second again. [[beat by lithia springs]] we're still not done with our show but so far everytime we've won general/overall effect. =]]

uhm yeah, we're not doing so hot. basically performance and movement is killing us. D= its mostly like...we won't hold a smile throughout the show. and we don't have back drops, so the judges can ALWAYS see you. i admit it, my smiles even waver sometimes...or i get the permagrin where my cheeks start to shake...hahahhaa.
this past weekend we got 12th out of 15 guards. =\ and my director is ready to kill me. oh boy.

So I have a question for y'all - how do you (or the captains or directors) get your guard to perform the work, not just go through the motions? i think it comes down to whether or not they want to be there, if they love guard and also it comes to confidence. confidence comes with practice, and we tell them that. they've improved soo much over this season, but they just are scared to show it i guess. Its soo aggrivating, I believe we would score soo much better if we would simply sell our show to the audience. We ended up giving candy out at sectionals. :-\

see i don't want to resort to extrinsic motivators lol...it should come from within them...ugh idk. tonights practice was better, but we still need to work on it.

I've never really gotten a chance to do a sad or angry show. We've had "day dreamy" (like this year- hoping our Cowboy will Take us Away. [song Cowboy Take Me Away]) I've always wanted to do one though. Both me and my friend (aka ibanana aka rifle instructor) want to do an "edgy" show. I think it'd be awesome =D

So, we just got back from the Kansas City Regional in Missouri. We placed 12th out of 24 in Prelims, and 13th in Finals. Not super awesome, but we did make finals, which was our goal.
One of the guards we drove down with didn't make finals, and the other won 1st in their class.

Have fun in Dayton. I doubt we're going, but it would be cool if we do.
And thanks. =]

My girlfriend and her friend went to SXSW (an Austin music/film fest {South by Southwest}), and met Sara Bareilles, who sings our winterguard show. She gave us a CD and signed it, in addition to signing their Tshirts, and taking a photo with them.
