Music Education, I've pretty much decided that music is too much a part of my life to give up after High School. I love to watch kids when they "get" the music, it gives me a unique feeling. I would have to teach Middle School at the VERY least, just because I don't have a lot of tolerance for kids who goof off. Ideally I will teach High School or college (probably High School at first).

I still have a while yet, but I want to double major in music education and flute performance. I'd really like to teach high school band or be a college winds/percussion professor.

Right now I'm a Young Adult Education Transfer major (I go to a two-year school at the moment). I'll have my Associate of Arts in Y.A. Education in June, and next fall I'm going to major in English and minor in German or French. I'm kind of dropping the Education aspect for my Bachelor's, but right after I get my degree in English, I'm going straight into my Masters, which will be Secondary Education with an emphasis on English. Also sometime before I start teaching, I want a certificate (recommended, but not required at all schools) to teach a foreign language (whichever I minor in).

Considering I won't go to college for 5 years, it may change... Civil engineering major with a minor in philosophy or mavbe music. It depends how high school band goes for me.

Whoa, what about Music Composition as a music major? How was that one left out?
I'm looking at Music Ed and Music Comp...but I've still got a little ways to go.

Well, I really dont know what to put for this one. I am majoring in both music Ed, and music performance... I voted for Music Education because I my emphasis is in oboe, and music performance is in voice.

Ahhh, majors ;D
So on average, a student changes his/her major twice. Here's my progression so far:
1. Civil Engineering 2. Materials Science 3. General Engineering 4. Mechanics
I almost did Law also, but nah.

I haven't declared yet, but as of now, I'm taking the Music Ed classes. Music Ed is the heaviest major at my college, and you can't double major/minor without going for more than 4 years...

Music Ed is the heaviest major at my college, and you can't double major/minor without going for more than 4 years... That's becoming more and more true for people with various majors. It seems to me that more and more people are taking 5 years to get a Bachelor's degree, and that is completely okay. It will take me 5 to get my B.A., and I felt weird about that at first. I almost felt that taking more than the typical 4 years would make me seem like a slacker, but I know that's definitely not true. I just graduated from a community college with my A.A. in Young Adult Education, and in the fall I'm going straight into an English program as a Junior. I'll be at my new school for three years. Part of that is because I'm transferring, and I'm sure it has something to do with having an English major, a French minor, and going abroad a semester. But I know plenty of people who are taking 5 years with just a major-- no double major or minors at all. One of my friends is taking 5 years as an International Studies major, another is taking 5 for Electrical Engineering, and another is taking 5 for Music Education. The era of the 4-year degree seems to be starting its end.
