I actually didn't change majors, I just combined them. Cuz I'm awesome like that.
Seriously, though, my tentative plan is thus:
-B.S. in Bio -B.A. in Astro (I'd to a B.S., but that turns out to essentially be a double major in Astro and Physics, and there's no way I'm going to try and triple-major).
And yes, I will probably be taking five years, as well.

What is happening? Alex is changing his mind again? Of course I am! I'm still keeping my English Major (literature concentration), but I changed my minor from French to Women's Studies. My school (Wells College in Aurora, NY) just went co-ed in 2005, and it's still trying to be a very feminist school (YAAAY!!!!), and the more I looked into the WS program, the more I liked it. So YAY for a new minor

I think we English majors have a tendency to want to learn for the sake of learning. Or rather, that's how I like to put it. I'm proud of the fact that I've never played around with my major, but I've changed minors at least five times. (Poli Sci, French, Socio. Psych., back to Socio., and now music...and that's just officially!) Hopefully your new minor will work out better than mine. I'm currently in music and I like my classes, but I'm not doing too well.

The one thing I loathe about most music majors is how much they complain about how hard their major is. It's really not, and when they say otherwise, they've done it to themselves.
I've known many people who've taken 20 credits, plus 4 ensembles on top of that and wanted to shoot themselves. My advice, don't be dumb. Don't do a million ensembles at once, pace yourself, and try to get all your liberal studies out of the way first. I love my music classes this semester because I'm not bogged down with 5-6 of them, I only have two and it's going great.

I do pace myself, however, and am only in two ensembles. I hate the class load though... I go to a trimester school, which means people take 3, MAYBE 4 classes at a time. Next semester, I'm taking 6 plus two pes. I'm jealous of my friends that have time, I admit.

I hope you dont think I was attacking you or anything ... I really wasnt ... but the people at my school just LOOOOOOVE to complain about all the courses and workload they have. I mean, these are the people who PUT themselves in that situation. I have a friend taking 4 music classes, 2 liberal studies and is in FIVE ensembles. They are never around and when I do see them they complain about it to no end.
It is my belief that this is how many music majors quit, they overload themselves to the point of insanity and complain complain complain that they HATE music.
I say if you hate music, then quit.
It's my personal observation in my music department, and then again, I usually try to space my classes out so I really don't have the "omgimsodoomed" music major mentality.

I think it's funny when non-music majors complain about how busy they are. Most non-music majors (MOST, I know that there are some other crazy majors out there but for MOST majors) take an average of 5-6 classes a semester (one of those often being a lab). That's about 2-3 classes a day. They go to class, they do homework, and other than that, unless they have a job, they get to socialize. I'm lucky when I have less than 5-6 classes and rehearsals in A DAY. And on top of that, I have to find time in the day to get a minimum of 3 hours of practicing in. Sometimes I wish that I could just sit around and do nothing. Social life? What's that? My social life exists at rehearsals.
And no, I am not overburdening myself. I'm taking an average course-load for a music major, and I'm looking into graduating in December of 2009 (that will have been 4.5 years). You HAVE to take that many classes if you want to even think about graduating in a reasonable amount of time (4-5 years). And keep in mind that most music majors who are not majoring in education plan to go on to grad school, and nowadays in order to get a job teaching in a university, you HAVE to get a doctorate (even the smaller colleges and universities are beginning to require at least ABD to even be considered). I would like to have my DMA before I'm 30 so that I can actually start taking in a steady salary so that I can start having children...I'd rather not look like one of those parents who picks their kids up from school and all their friends think taht you are actually their grandmother...haha

Music programs (especially Music Ed) do require more credit hours than most degree programs, and the big kicker is that our ensembles generally get listed as .5 or 1 credits even thought they take MORE time than regular classes. That and they want us to practice 3 hours a day outside of our ensembles.

I plan on going into music performance next fall.I was originally thinking about going into physical education/coaching but after marching season was over,I got to thinking and I really don't think that I could give up music after high school,so after a long(2 1/2 hours) discussion with my band director,he gave me some really really good reasons why I should do go into performance. It really made me feel better that he,of all people had confidence in me that I could suceed.

Right now I'm declared an Anthropology Major with Archeology specialization but I MAY switch to Anthro with a Physical/Forensic emphasis, which still leaves me in the "other" category

I for one finally declared a Spanish major. My plan is to graduate by December 2010 and get the heck outta there, then try to find writing work in LA or some other area with a large Spanish-speaking population. Either that or I take a permanent job at my summer place, get my Master's degree, and teach. Or...something else. I have not quite decided.

When I end up going to the university I choose, I'm pretty sure I'll be a music education major, but right now I'm just a Music major. (the community college I go to doesn't have specifics) so I think they just assume I'm a performance major. Yay.
My concentration will be bassoon. Always.
