I'm really bad with rare instruments... I'm not used to all these different wind instruments! They're everywhere! I didn't even know what a soprano sax was for a while, LOL. And contrabass-anythings are so weird. I can't imagine anything that low [Used to 4 instruments, Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass]

contrabass clarinet! that thing is amazing. the low notes hardly have distinct pitches. just rumbles. soo fun and i'm sitting on a stool. cause it's really tall. yeah, not really TOO rare, but still cool.

^^ yea, we have one in our band. I got to sit right next to him at one concert and it was just so cool, cuz he had a semi solo part and it was just like all rumbly and deep. I'm a big fan of the instruments strong in bass.

How about 3 alto clarinets? All of which I play? I know it's not much compared to what some people have seen but 3 is a lot for alto clarinets these days!

He bought it on Ebay for like $ 300. Really cheap. Yet somehow it still actually played (unlike most Ebay instruments.) It's big... and silver... and shiny... and the director got kinda mad at him for some reason, IDK, now it's in the director's office. Maybe he just wanted to look at it.

I once saw a bass sax during marching season. (For those who don't know how big it is, this sax stands at 5 feet and requires a stool, not a neckstrap) However, it was part of the frontline section (Imagine marching with that thing?!) We also use an electric bass guitar in the frontline, but I think that more common than a bass sax

^ $300 for a bass sax, that's cheaper than my beginner's yamaha alto sax!

My (surrogate) older brother was a jazz oboe before he quit band. He worked with our stand-in oboe on the 1812 solo.

Jazz oboe? Kill me! Now! Just kidding. Puppies... there are some amazing contrabass videos on YouTube. Marching alto clari- yes. The KTB used to march alto and contra-alto. Marching bass sax... he wants to. This particular one is paperclip style so he just uses a neckstrap. You could march with it. Frontline section... im guessing that's what the rest of the world calls a pit...

He's actually okay at it, still. My BD is weird enough to allow all kinds of things, although now his foot is down about only trumpets, saxes and trombones being the only wind instruments in jazz band.
