Oh, my bad. If it's written in C then the bass clef trick doesn't work. I guess it would depend where the Eb clarinet usually plays, then. First bone might work, as might baritone or bassoon.

Eb clari is around picc range, so tbone or bassoon wouldn't work. i'd go for picc and 1st clari part. speaking of Eb claris, wind ensemble had on at their last concert. he only played it in one piece though.
anyone heard of a tenor tuba? we're playing The Planets and there's a tenor tuba part but no one knows what it is. could it be played on a baritone/euph?

I saw a blue cornet! No idea how rare that is, but I've never seen or heard of one!

Tenor tuba may be a tenor horn... I really don't know. As for the blue cornet, there is one company that sells many colored horns.

We have a contrabass clarinet player, sometimes, in our Woodwind Ensemble. I also saw a subcontrabass clarinet at a community orchestra performance at my friend's church. They even had a contrabass tuba, which I thought was a sousaphone. It was so cool! I just realized that the marching band in Mr. Holland's Opus uses regular French horns. That's sort of uncommon. Subcontrabass clarinet? According to contrabass.com, there are only like four of those ever built... but maybe they're wrong... I play alto clarinet and contrabass clarinet. At our area band this year there was an English Hornist. I saw him at tryouts and was asking all my friends what it was but no one told me until I found out about it when I made Wind Ensemble.

Holland's opus was a movie. as good as it was, it's not gonna be 100 % right. and mellos only recently became common. that movie was set in the 60s- 80s.

One semester while one of the trombone players was MIA I got to play valved trombone to cover the missing part.
*ducks and runs for cover from the flood of angry trombonists for mentioning such a travesty*

Tenor tuba is, to my knowledge, another term for euphonium.

^^ Lol. Yeah. I guess that would be the same thing?? IDK. I haven't seen anything that Rare in all of my band outings. My BD has a slide trumpet (soprano trombone?) that he keeps in his office. He has a pocket trumpet and several other trumpets, and a few trombones that he keeps in his office that are his own property. The school has both alto and bass clarinets, 2 bari saxes, and a bassoon, which aren't the most COMMON of instruments, but they have all been mentioned here.
I personally went through the instrument cases of our school because we are moving to a new school this coming school year. There weren't any rare or unusual instruments. = [
We have a trumpet that has a rope extra-strength super-glued to it to make it look like the Trumpet from Music Man thats slides and valves hardly work. The slides, in fact, we believe were glued into the trumpet as well. = / It may actually not be able to be fixed. We found 5. . . 5!!!! Trumpets that we didn't know the school owned when we cleaned the instrument rooms out. My old trumpet, the one that I was loaned from the school, had gum INSIDE it and all over the case. It was gross.
Also, We had a trombone that had a slide and bell that didn't match that someone had duct taped together and somehow played.
Sorry about the stray from the topic. I think this makes me want to start a new topic. Has anyone started a "Weird Instrument Fixes" topic?
