Hoorah for Concert Festival and Honor Bands!
We're playing Ammerland and American Riversongs for Concert Festival. Both are greatttt. I'm playing alto clarinet, too, so that's pretty awesome. Except it kinda broke...so...Well, it's kind of up in the air what will happen.

I think we played Amerland when I was a freshman. I remember liking it a lot.
For Concert Festival we're going to play "Panis Angelicus" and "Celtic Hymns and Dances." I love the first one, and the second one I don't like too much so far, but we haven't played it too much, so I might start to like it later on.

My school has concert bands year round. I actually went to a festival on Halloween this year. My next festival for concert bands I think is in March and thats state quals, and then I have one more festival after that. But I have a lot of jazz festivals coming up . I have one on the 5th or 6th (I can't remember xD) of February. Then another one the next week. The final jazz festival is in April sometime. Marching band is purely extracurricular at my school, and we are forced to practice on our own time- mainly 3 hours after school Mondays Wednesdays and Fridays and 2 hours on Tuesdays. During this off season, we have basketball "pep band" games, where everyone goes and plays at breaks. Its really not that fun. I really like my festival set so far. I am playing this one song called Variations on a Korean Folk Song. It is really cool and has a lot of runs for a trumpet part. We are also playing this [obscure?] piece called Cumberland Falls. Apparently they're in Kentucky somewhere. I am excited for the concert season but am sad to see that marching band couldn't be further away

At my county's honor band today we played Canterbury Chorale (Van der Roost), Fanfare, Mules, and Rooster Fries (Dawson), Tapestries (or something like that - Holsinger), and one other that I can't remember.
EDIT: I remembered the last one. It was "Symphonic Triptych" by Curnow.

^Ah, Holsinger. He's pretty popular at my school. A few of our kids go to his Honor Band every year. (I'm assuming you mean David Holsinger, lol.) At the honor band I went to we played Into The Clouds, Carpethian Sketches, Yorkshire Ballad, and Hosts of Freedom. We ALMOST played Shenendoah...and I was really upset when we didn't because I love that piece so much.

A Hymnsong on Phillip Bliss That's such a pretty song... My band played it at a band mommy's funeral last year. It was so sad, but so pretty at the same time.

Going to a community college, I have no marching season right now. There is one I could choose to go to, but I don't know. When I was in high school it was different of course. I didn't know whether to be glad marching season was over or not. Specifically in my senior year of which I hated concert season because it wasn't any fun. (I didn't play bassoon. ) Marching band required a lot of work and time out in the heat though. =/

Final Concert next Sunday (my director says we can't use church as excuse or else he would too... boo)
Star Spangled Banner Fanfare Prelude on the "Italian Hymn" Swing Low, Sweet Chariot Chorale and Shaker Dance On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss Shoutin' Liza Trombone Ave Maria Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah (they spelled it wrong the music... I wasn't happy, there's a heh at the end of it in Hebrew!) Just a Closer Walk with Thee The Baylor Line (sung)
Running time: About an Hour and Half
What's silly is that for Philip Bliss, Ave Maria, and Baylor Line a good chunk of each is sung
