Well the title says it all. After 5 months of toil we are finally back to the climate- controlled part of the year. Post anything having to do with concert season- programs, things you do or don't like about it and anything else you can think of.

It's been concert season time for me since September. The joys of college band without having to march...

For symphonic (top) band we're doing a few songs for state.. can't remember which, though, but I'll post 'em up when I find out.

We have concert season while marching band is going on... Marching band for us is strictly extra-curricular, so the practices are never during school hours. During school hours, even during marching season, we do concert music during band class. I like it that way, though I've never been exposed to anything different lol.

Yes, it's concert season. Our band does way better as a concert band than a marching band, I'm sad to say. But, concert season does let me switch to my oboe, which I hope is my ticket for getting into college, so it's not all that bad.

Concert band starts in September for us as well. Less than half of all the band kids are in marching band. We played Adagio For Strings (well, in our case, for Band...) at our winter concert.....and actually did a good job. Spring season holds for us, hopefully, some additional challenging pieces.....

Yeah.. we have marching band practices during school, Mondays and Thursdays three to six (sectionals three until whenever (around five)), and on some Saturdays if needed. We had a Friday night rehearsal once because we couldn't go to a game (too far away for the Athletic Dept. to pay for it... right). So I guess that makes us a pretty hardcore marching band Right.. Christmas Concert? We played "Sleigh Ride", "A Christmas Finale", "Chestnuts on an Open Blaze", and "Jingle Bells". I think. Anyway. Our head director believes that we're a definitive concert-season band. He says that's what everybody in the area knows us as, and what we're best at. Personally, I don't believe or agree with a lick of it - we're not known as "the band that played Incantation & Dance and got all ones, for the first time in school history", but as "the big, loud-ass band with the silver people". Sorry for the language, but that's how I last heard us described by someone not in the program

I don't really like how marching band at our school is run, so I'm excited that it's almost over. Yeah note the almost. Marching is over, but now we have to do all our PE stuff! YIPPIE!! yeah for band miles!! Haha yeah, basically most people in band are only there because it looks good on college apps, so they don't want to be in marching band and have bad attitudes about it. We're really good once people put their mind to it, we got 92. something at a band review, which is the highest in years. If only people would be serious during actual practices so we would get things done WAY faster.
Anyways, we're playing a bunch of music we shouldn't be playing in Wind Ensemble. There's no formal audition for any of the bands, so WE is basically all the seniors and the best juniors, but most of the seniors don't care and barely anyone practices.

i'm a little dissappointed in the music our director picked for concert contest.
We've got a new director this year, so she has us staying as one big band this year instead of breaking into honor and symphonic bands, so the music has to be a little easier than we have done previously, but to me, the long piece at least, is too easy. I'm used to my part being 3 or 4 pages long. this one is only 2.
But, our music for contest is: Billaboard March Concert Variations and i don't remember the slow piece.

Last year,my freshmen year we did concert band and marching band was extra-curicular. This year, marching was split into [copied from gchsbands.com] Non-Competitive Marching Band- This group performs at all concerts, during pre-game and in the stands at all home football games. Any student that does not meet the competitive marching band audition requirements or rehearsal schedule due to a conflict with another school organization or sport may be placed in non-competitive marching band. The student must meet all financial obligations and agrees to attend all home football games. Competitive Marching Band - This group performs at all home football games, parades, concerts, and several marching band competitions. A substantial amount of after school rehearsal time goes into the preparation of these performances. The student must pass the audition requirements, meet all financial obligations, and agrees to attend summer rehearsals, GCHS Band Camp, and all after school rehearsals and performances. I was in non-compitive and we did these ensemble things. We didn't ever perform them though. When compitive was done marching [end of Oct], we started music for our All District Christmas Concert. We played Black Granite,Hymmsong of Phillip Bliss, The Illiad [*shoots self in head*], and Sleigh Ride. For spring semester, were split into 2 bands, concert band and wind ensemble. I'm 2nd chair in concert band.[don't get me started on that...]

High school: AWWWW, NO MORE MARCHING BAND? College: HOLY CRAP! NO MORE MARCHING BAND!
Funny how that happens... I chose to take University Band this quarter. Guess what my commitment is? 7:30-9:30 PM every Thursday. That's it. I get my Saturdays, Sundays, and weekdays from 5-6:30 PM back! Yes! No more pulled groin muscles, either!

I totally agree with SaxGirl. Except... I'm not playing in concert band. I haven't played in concert band since middle school. But I'm a marching geek at heart.

At my school, marching band is optional, but if you're in marching band, you HAVE to take band class (unless you're in colorguard).

Marching band and school never mix. Heck, if we practice marching music during band class, we usually get told to do it on our own time.
