Woo concert season!! And festival season as well!! =D I think the symphonic band (top band) is going to be playing Courtly Airs and Dances. Which, as Altoclarinets mentioned in the band quotes thread, has a whopping 6 parts for clarinet. And we only have 4 clarinets, well I guess 5 because the band-aide (hahah) is a clarinet player but isn't really playing. We've only really played that song a bit so far. And we have a concert in the beginning of February at somepoint.

A huge percentage of my band think concert season is boring... I love concert season and marching season. So far we have really cool music this year.

Urgh. Symphonic Band music: -Rolling Thunder. BEAST trombone part I'm not looking forward to having to practice @_@ -Hymn for the Altruistic. Nice, but sucks on third part. -Carmina Burana Suite. Epic, but.. weird sounding.

I think the symphonic band (top band) is going to be playing Courtly Airs and Dances. Which, as Altoclarinets mentioned in the band quotes thread, has a whopping 6 parts for clarinet. Note: (and you might want to use this to decide part setup) Despite the appearance of having 6 parts the only parts that are not always doubled are 1st and 2nd. The other 4 parts swith between 3 and 4 unison, 5 and 6 unison, 3 and 5 unison, 4 and 6 unison, and all unison.

We got music today/yesterday. Quietude,Festive Overture, and someother thing thats upstairs and excaping my memory. We're playing Festive Overture too! Haven't played it yet though because we're missing a bunch of parts, 1st cornet, 1st trumpet, 1st alto, and the score. Makes it a bit difficult to play... We're also playing Incantation and Dance Commemoration Overture Masquerade for Band Yeah basically we shouldn't be playing those pieces though, WAY too hard for us. If people actually practiced we might be able to pull it off....i think our BD is trying to get everyone to practice though, she threatened that if they didn't sound good in a few weeks we'd play grade 2 music at the CMEA festival, not that most people care anyways... Oh well, i like playing challenging pieces.

Incantation eh? We played that last year in symphonic as our main song. Challenging piece, but not unbeatable - we got straight superiors for the first time in school history in state competition with it

I really like Incatation, but I doubt we'll sound good at it since no one practices...I think we're going to a festival this year, last year we didn't (don't know why, i asked my jr high teacher and he said he'd tell me when i graduated...) so who knows what will happen, hopefully we can at least sound decent

We haven't gotten any "new" concert music for this part of concert season, but he gave us "Second Symphony for Band (Part 3: Finale)" and "Do Not Go Gentle Into that Good Night" a few months ago. We'd read through them a few times and didn't play them again. Now we're starting to play them some more. Second Symphony for Band is pretty cool, Do Not Go Gentle is hard, and kinda weird-sounding... Oh well.
Second Symphony is by Frank Erickson, Do Not Go Gentle is by Elliot Del Borgo

Now that I am in college, concert band is year round.
I have mixed feelings about how I feel now that marching band is over. I do like having my afternoons free, (we rehearsed everyday from 4-5:30) but I will miss game days in Tuscaloosa, performing in Bryant Denney Stadium, my section, and away trips.

Nitro was premiered at my college. I don't really care for it as much as Ticheli's other pieces.
We're playing:
Vox Populi by Richard Danielpour West Side Story Suite (In which I tacet about 3/5ths of it) Rush by Samuel Hazo AirLink by Jack Stamp Blue Lake Overture by John Barnes Chance
I think there is another but I can't think of it right now.

It's sad to see marching band go I'll miss it. But Concert band is okay to!! It's my Senior year, so its sad to see everything going by. But anyway, we may be entering our very first concert Band competition We never compete and it will be our first time. But other than that, we keep getting new music every other day.
