Some cheap ($200) Accent Clarinet.
When I got it I didn't know anything about clarinets. XD I vowed never to make such a mistake again. At the time I was just anxious to have a clarinet. It's not that bad... but still I should have gone for a better model.

One Nomandy 4 (really gross marching horn)- some 40-odd years old One Buffet E11- age? ? One Buffet RC Festival coming senior year And 3 (school-owned) Leblanc alto clarinets- all of which have been with the school since the old ladies at the church who talk about Katy football (it's a big thing around here) were in band-- 50 years ago... Once upon a time, long long ago, in a land not so far away, they actually MARCHED alto clarinets at Katy High School... oh how I long for those days.

Selmer clarinet, and some kind of mouthpiece...somethin' B45. Like, Paris-something...yeah... *nods* I've had her for almost two years now, but we did rent-to-own, so I don't know how old she really is. The Vandoren B45. Is it one of the better ones? I've played on one that was fairly decent and one that was absolutely HORRIBLE!!! Vandoren is so inconsistant with the B45s, it's really getting old now. Sorry. But if it's one of the better ones, that's good for you. The Profile 88 is the best one you can get. The problem many people have is that the B45 normally doesn't do hard reeds. Many don't know this and pull out the 4 or 5 (yuck). The profile 88 is build for harder reeds, and sounds better, but takes so much air it's not even funny. The entire Stampede woowind line uses the B45... Except flutes of course. In any case, I own an old Buffet (40 some years) and a really old plastic Boosey and Hawkes Series 1010 (or something like that) at 55 years for marching. I don't know the make of the Buffet because all the stencilling is long worn off

You should probably be able to find out by serial number. I'm not an expert at that particular thing but there are people who are, or you could write the company. Seeing how old it is, there are really very few things it could be because until the 1980's Buffet student clarinets were made with the name Evette and Schaeffer.

I could do that, thanks alto. As soon as I dig myself out of memorizing and calculus I'll look into it...

I got to play the orch director's R13 today (she played clarinet in college) It was AMAZING! I 've been trying to get my friends to let me play on one of their R13/ other high grade horns just once or twice to get the feel, but this is the first time I 've actually gotten to use one. It makes me that much more excited about my RC Prestige (excuse me, I had accidentally said Festival) that I'll be getting- may even be junior year!

I kept my plastic Selmer from middle school for marching band. I've got a Buffet E-11 for concert band and I love it. I'm hoping to get a new one for my birthday, or at least before I get to college. Maybe an R-13?

i have a Monique clarinet that's at least 6 years old (probably older). it's plastic, and really bad quality. i only played on that for about a year and a half before i got a Normandy 4. it's wood with nickel plated keys. it's a nice enough instrument, it plays pretty well, and there's nothing horribly wrong with it, but i'm planning on majoring in music performance in college, so i need a better quality one. right now i'm looking at the Yamaha Custom line, specifically the YCL CSG with Hamilton keys. hopefully i'll have that by the end of this summer...once i get a job to pay for it...

I have a plastic Yamaha that I use for marching, and a wooden Selmer that's quite old, really. Around 50 (which I think might be wrong) years, according to our instrument repair person.

I've got a 5-year-old Yamaha YCL450 that I absolutely love. As for marching, please don't hit me--I use my Yamaha. I used to have a fifty-year-old plastic Artley, but the person we bought it from hadn't taken care of it and the leaks became irrepairable. Maybe in grad school I'll upgrade again.

newmedia- an r13 is an excellent horn. I'm borrowing the orch teacher's. it's amazing, I can really notice the difference between this and the E11, especially in the throat and low registers, where the tuning is better and the tone is more like the rest of the horn than with the E11. Has anyone seen the new Leblanc models? Take a look at these. Considering how weird they look, I am forced to wonder what they sound like. www.gleblanc.com/instruments/backun.php

Wooden Bb Buffett-F11 i dont know the age b/c it was used before i got it
EDIT:there is no such thing as a F11. It's actually a E11 but the bottom of the E rubbed off and it looked like an F(shows how old it is).

Most of my friends' student horns (which they now use for marching) were new in 6th grade and are now entirely w/o stnciling of any kind. BTW, I just foinished freshman year. So it is quite conceivable that yours really isn't *that* old. On the other hand, however, I have a Normandy 4 for marching that's at least 25 years old and probably 40 that still has most of its gold. But the Normandy is embossed, not just printed, suo it had a little more guarding against the elements.
