This would be kind of a cold-day omg my lips are going to fall off mouthpiece. Of course, I've also had my baritone freeze with the second valve depressed so it remains to be seen.

Yeah I figured. I don't see the problem with them then. They are actually very useful for teaching embouchure and looking at placement (that is, if you get the clear ones) We use them in our brass tech classes to check embouchure and evaluate problems. So it's actually kind of cool too. And they have pretty colors!!!

I see my thread has returned to popularity as we approach the cold season again...

For homecoming this year it was less than 15 degrees out and our band had to march in the parade and then sit through the football game and perform our halftime show. We made it through the parade even though we were all freezing. The minute our band took the field for the halftime show it started blizzarding. We were told at the next rehearsal that the temperature had actually dropped seven degrees at half time. At least half the band had frozen key's/valves/slides at one point during the show. That day was probably the coldest I have ever been.

It was 20 degrees at 6:00 at night last Friday. We had to march in a parade. My poor clarinet had ice in it from where my spit froze over. I haven't been properly warm since lol.

Our high school practices used to go 6-9 all the way through October. (Woo, Minnesota!)
It would get anywhere up to 20 degrees, and it's kind of hard to horn-ify with thick gloves, so I usually wore the really thin ones. My right hand would freeze in the C shape, while my left froze in the shape of my valves.
The boys thought it was so cool to do "Shirtless O'clock" on the last practice. It was SO cold. Probably a good thing the new director doesn't even allow bathing suits during practice. (even in the summer)

^You are insane! I expect it would be even worse at a school like mine where football (and hence, marching season) regularly continues through December

We have the most prudish school ever, or else we would probably do that. Although, 6-8's aren't as bad as zero hour for us.

Yeah, they don't technically allow us to do it, but the guys don't really care. Plus, we're not in the state highschool league (that I know of), so we don't need to abide by their rules. And it's not like the school would send someone out to watch us. :3

So, I now have a purple and a clear plastic mouthpiece (different sizes). The purple one, my third chair claimed as his own because he sounds 200% better on it, tone-wise. No exaggeration. That, and I think this is his last year of band, and almost certainly his last year of brass, so damaging his embouchure isn't a big deal.
EDIT: My BD has officially admitted that my third chair sounds better on the purple mouthpiece. He was tuning the third chair, and he's like "how's that mouthpiece treating you? You sound good on it. Everybody look, he's got a purple mouthpiece."

In regard to heat, where I live, its not enough for our summers to be hot. Oh, no. They have to be humid too. I prefer to drink water, not inhale it, thanks. I learned the hard way that humidity+asthma=asthma attack. I also hate the fact that BD's control the weather. It was pouring down rain and we had practice. We were all hoping for practice to be canceled. Right before band, it stopped raining and the sun was shining bright as you please. I walked outside and immediately turned around and went back in. That was the day I had my first asthma attack, incidentally. I ended up sitting out for half of practice, all the while cursing the heat and humidity. Anyone from KY would know what I'm talking about.

lol!! I have one. We were at a competition. The sun was about down and I am guessing around 25 degrees. I was Hansel in the show so my "uniform" consisted of knee high socks, shorts, a tight, really thin short sleeve shirt, and really comfertable guard shoes. We called it the orange stage. That is when your fingers and other body parts are so cold they turn orange. I was so hard to play that day. For all of you clarinets, my left thumb was getting stuck to the octave key, my fingers would not move hardly, but believe it or not, it was one of our best performances. We do better at night time. Soloist+microphone on the entire time+hardly any clothes on+below freezing temperatures+sixteenth run notes and a fast tempo= distaster!!! No, it was just really cold. Or the last run-through of the last practice of the year, it is tradition for the girls to wear tanks and shorts and for the guys to take off their shirts and wear shorts. Now, not everyone does it. Depending how either dedicated they are or stupid, I will leace that up to you. Well, it would not be that bad if it was not snowing out side, the wind was not blowing, and if the temperatures were below freezing; but they were!! There were about 10 people who did it, including myself. It was the worst conditions I have ever "marched" in(I am not allowed to march becasue I was not suposed to fit into the rest of the band. I tis a lot harder than it looks.). It was not good at all.

I was about to make fun of you for thinking 25 is cold, but with the snow and wind and shorts that would be bad. Especially because when it's that cold and it still snows, it's that really weird, heavy snow. I think we need to establish a poll to decide how cold we think really is "cold"
