Ive got some SL drama and didnt feel like starting a new thread so... I am going to be a senoir next year and have been SL for the past year.I put my app in for SL this year but the BD specifically asked one of the freshmen to put her name in as well.Either he is A) going to replace me or B) he is going to have her try out and not give it to her or C) have her as ASL but there arnt really that many people in my section - only 6 this last year.

I think a section leader needs to be responsible, loud (to an extent), commanding, a role model, a leader, a marcher, and a player. If they're lacking significantly in one of those areas, they probably do not deserve SL.
For the '08 season, the head flute SL was the 2nd top flute, who had marching and playing skills AND was an excellent leader (all throughout campus!). But, out of the other four flutes who were aspiring section leaders, the BD chose the worst marcher and the worst senior musician for assistant SL. ASL wasn't respected at all, considering he/she spent most of marching season making copies of whatever. Needless to say, flutes weren't happy and the other sections laughed. =/
So I do think a SL or ASL needs to be a well-rounded individual. If they can't play or march or don't dedicate themselves to improving, they're not a good choice. Likewise, if they aren't a good role model (irresponsible, bad grades, etc) or leader, then they're probably also not a good choice.
