I just can't take the high notes any longer. There needs to be a cutoff for what notes clarinets are allowed to play. I suggest preventing anything above the second or third ledger lines.........of the bass clef.

^There is some ritual they refer to as "crossing the bridge" which I think should be banned.

^We've always called it "crossing the break", actually. I don't know if anyone else uses that, but yeah.

The saxophone has always been a useless instrument outside of the jazz setting...I tire of having my part doubled with a terrible sounding instrument.

I'm sorry but some bands need woodwinds. Who else would play the runs? Some brasses can't do it.

OMG i didn't read the q and clicked clarinet :-O i don't think any section should be removed, they're all necessary to the band. If we are only allowed to open G, that removes the part of the horn that composers write for...

^agreed. All sections are important for balance. except contra because they keep bugging me for music we don't have.
Psst...shouldn't this be in Band Chat or in Instruments?

no one SHOULD b removed from the band.... but...... if i had to make someone go away... it'd be guard, no offense to the guardies, but we don't really need them to sound good, we just need them to look good...

^ yes, you need them to look good. Cause without them you look like little birdies wandering aimlessly around a field playing your little toys.

OBOES.
Don't get me wrong: It's such a cool instrument. But seriously, man. Some people should not be allowed to play oboe in public, especially when it's with 3 other people who play just like them! I have so many stories about awesome moments in band that were ruined by bad oboe players. It's even worse than...
SAXES. They always steal the spotlight from the horns but they don't sound as cool. (haha, coming from someone who's been playing sax longer than horn)

I voted for flutes. When there are a reasonable number of them, it's fine, but my school has 3 band classes and there are like 5000 flutes in each one.

^ That's the problem with most bands. They put in too many flutes and it sounds horrible. My wind ensemble at school is made up of like 50% flutes and it sounds terrible. Why my bd did that, I have no clue.
