we get our yearly nicknames on the backs of our section shirts. Mine is Pirate because of pirate day at band camp. Well, we call a lot of people by their last names because there are so many jessicas, dans, etc. and they stick! i couldn't imagine calling people by their first names. there's a senior quad that we all call poopy for some reason. dunno why. there's a really funny nickname for a trumpeter named CALF 2.0. it's not forum appropriate, so come find me if you really wanna know what it is.

Lol, this year the clarinet section seniors decided to give everybody in the section nicknames, but they were meant to sound like indian names. So, our section leader's name was Head Chief, 2 other seniors had names, but I can't remember what they were, one of my friend's name was Hasty Bison because she's really tall, and there was one set where she had to make it like 15 yards in 8 counts backwards and quickly, and she did, and another friend's name was Fire Thighs because during band camp she started chaffing (it was hilarious... long story...). But yeah. Those were the only people who got names though. The rest of us didn't. They said you had to do something extraordinary to get a name, and i did nothing really extraordinary, so yeah...

This kind of annoying freshman trumpet in the upper jazz band gets the nickname of Shorty, courtesy of the upperclassmen. It's pretty self-explanatory.

We have a guy named Reggie. His real name is Chris. No idea where that came from, it just happened.
We have a lot of guys we call by their last names, but that's not too original. The pit and drumline had nicknames for a while, but they didn't really stick with anyone but themselves..there was Bugstink, Stinkbug, Sassafrass, Foxy Cleopatra, Twizzler, Licorice...uhm I think that's it.

Penut Butter is my nickname becuase one time during a band practice, a trumpet player randomly came up to me with his best friend, a clarinet player whose last name is Nutter, so everyone calls him Fluff and the trumpet player came up to me and said "You are Peanut Butter, so we can have peanut butter and fluff."

nicknames are hilarious. though me and my closer friend mostly have our nicknames for eachother. some to innapropiate for a forum though, a play on words or last names.
trumpets were hilarious though, when we went to states they were wearing their section shirts with all their nicknames - Blanka, Big, Bird, Lennon, Suave, Julz(its a guy, lmao) and a couple others. Mine was Rocko for a bit, due to the Rocko's modern life shirt i happened to be wearing, and the fact that there were 3 allysons. now there's stuff like Delicioso, Filipino, Sextor, Joelley Belly, Panda, Charlie, Alvin and too many to name.
my favorite is probably my SL's. Bear Claw. me and a couple of my friends started calling my him that due to the way he conducts. it really does kinda look like a claw, he doesn't keep his fingers closed, they kinda flare out, like he's about to pounce or something.
GRAWR BEAR CLAW.

My first BD gave many people nicknames. Flipper- one of my friends that fell backwards marching and almost flipped. Slipper-slipped on the tile of the band room. Grass Eater- My horn cousin who tripped and his face landed at an angle to where it looked like he was eating grass Spike-(Me) I had short Hair (Not as short as I do now) Bug Boy- (Me) I had to go get bug spray from the band room. Strip- A flute incident during Pajama Day while trying to pull down flanel shorts, pulled down pajamas too.
After that Bd had Stroke Eyebrows- (Me) when I played trumpet, every note above an E my eyebrows would shoot up. Milky- me and a group of friends went to a Mexican Restaurant and he ordered milk... So when he got up to go to the bathroom, either our Band captain or DM put mexican rice in his milk.

The tubas, drumline, and trumpets all have sectional nicknames in my band. The tubas actually have a "ceremony" towards the end of our band camp week where they all meet somewhere for lunch and the upperclassmen unveil the nicknames for the new members. The entire band will call them by these nicknames for the rest of their band career at State. One year the tubas lined everyone up so that the names read "Bacon" "Eggs" (and) "Cheese" "Biscuit". Sometimes the nicknames fit so well, especially for the tubas and drumline, that even the band directors will have temporary memory loss as to what the member's real name is!
