Our band marches corps style, so I'm assuming "Traditional" is high-stepping, right?

Yes. Not as exaggerated as some of the southern bands, but we do pick our knees up and go for more angular and structured formation, not flowing and roll-step. Our hs bd enjoyed saying our rival band did the retirement home shuffle on the field. o.O

I wouldn't worry about it-- you'll learn everything you need to during rehearsals. Since there are people coming from all different kinds of backgrounds, I'm sure they'll spend plenty of time making sure everyone knows the technique.

think about squeezing the tube of toothpaste on your forward march, and don't put your heels down on the backward march. have fun!

Wait, we don't put our heels down on backward march. I thought that was normal...

Don't worry, you'll get it! All through high school we did the glide-step, and when I came to college, for part of our pre-game we do traditional high-step marching. It took me quite a while to get used to lifting my legs so high, and even at the first game I still had some issues. Trust me, if I can go from glide-step to high-step, you'll do fine going the other way. -SFZ
