We have improved greatly over the years. A whole new leadership team that everyone has been respecting. We have a lot better practice ettiquite. A lot more work is getting done and I am excited. You have to let them have fun while practice. If they dont enjoy what they are doing they will likely create something to be as entertainment for themselves and some around them. I met our arranger of our show. He is amazing. Bnad camo' has been over for almost a week and time for the real work to begin.

We have the hardest show that we've ever done this year....and probably the most new marchers. My bd says he's never seen so many feet out of time, but at 180, who can blame them? Two years ago when we did a show at 180 there were maybe 4 new marchers. This year, I think we have 18 new wind players alone, and at least half of them need seriously help. Can't even mark time. It was not helpful that during the early days of band camp, my bd neglected to explain most of the important basics of marching, such as starting out on the left foot. It is also not helpful that he as been screaming at us a lot for being confused, which isn't entirely our fault. However, since our show changes time signatures too many times to count, no one really is sure what foot to be on..... so what I think is going to happen is we're going to struggle for weeks, but eventually pull through and do very very well, because our show has a lot of potential to be amazing. That's what I hope is going to happen. I'm very scared.
Not to mention that these two weeks of band camp have had the worst heat on record. Every single day was 90+ and humid. So many of the new people are posting on facebook that they don't want to go to band. But I suppose this is normal.

Kind of reviving a dead thread. But we don't really have a "marching band" like a, play at half time, type band. But we have an amazing pep band. Well, we participated in UW's annual Husky Band Day, and man, we didn't even march in patterns and I am so sore. We just stood there for a long time. Even that was hard for me! I had no idea marching band was THAT physical, even without moving Or maybe I am just super duper unfit..ha

So far, the season is going GREAT. We had our home opener on Saturday, and man, it was something else. ISU brought their band, and they really put on a top notch show. Then we took the field with our Journey medley. Basically, the crowd was so loud I couldn't hear myself think, I had to shout the countoff for the 3 in 1 conversion because we couldn't hear the whistles at all. I don't think I've ever seen so many camera flashes at a halftime EVER. Basically, it was a great night. And we still have the Ben Folds show, the jazz show featuring Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and the Cherry Poppin' Daddies, the "Throwback" homecoming show where we make a bunch of animated pictures on the field, the Halloween show featuring Thriller (we will be doing the dance), and the "Boy Band" show which will basically just be wacky and fun, the crowd is going to love it. Ahhh, I love band...

I change how I feel abot our band.
I am FREAKING OUT. A good chunk of the rookies this year do not, a) know their set breaks, b) their music, or c) have their dots memorized. We have problem students who I've learned to just deal with, but it's like the ENTIRE freshmen classis like this!!! At this point, most section leaders are doing extra sectionals for the special people, but I am sooooooo scared for our first competition....
...Although, i'd rather do bad at the first competition, then at state finals...

Ok guys, what you have to remember about freshmen is that most if not all of them have never marched before. They've probably never even had to memorize 10 minutes of music before. A lot of them are probably freaking out because of the stress of learning all of that. Just take it easy on them, give plenty of advice, and hope that they don't have a panic right before the show.

Honestly...our season isn't looking too great right now. Our second competition is this Saturday, and we don't have our whole show on the field yet. Half of our Freshman class can march, the other half can't. Our spirit that we had last year is gone. Our old BD left and took all of our enthusiasm with him. =/
