Just wondering how people's bands are doing on their first few days. Our new people are actually turning out AMAZING. They're learning so fast, and the new visual guy is awesome! More to come. =]
How bout everyone else?

Yet to get started but I'm sooooooooo excited. Our CG choreographer is coming back and so is our old BD who took a year off.

I haven't started yet... 2 more weeks till our first rehearsal. New Band Director, so I'm kind of nervous, but also excited to meet him. Though I'm kind of sad because it's pretty much a given that the competition success we had this year is not going to happen again.

I'm dreading this year a bit.
We're basically loosing our low brass. Our tuba powerhousegraduated (now only 2 can play sortof well, one's decent, and the other two are beginners). Our lead trombonist is quitting. Half our mellophones are quitting (although they weren't that great anyway). Some of our good trumpets are qutting. A couple decent flutes are quitting. All of those guys quitting are seniors or juniors.
We're going to have, according to the director, a good supply of freshmen. As good as that SOUNDS, it's not. Why? Because we have HORRIBLE rehearsal ettiquite. Most of the band doesn't give a rat's you-know-what about what we do. We have few people that actually even PRACTICE, yet we're a WBA 5-A band. :[ We got last place at WBA semifinals last year.
Worse yet, our marching technique is out the window. We got a new director my freshman year, and we haven't done parade at all (so our parades and technique both suck, to be blunt). We didn't get good scores last season (all around 85 or lower). Blaaah. And we're supposed to start parade this year, but only the seniors would have done it...and not since their freshman year.
BLAAAH.
*woe is my band*
Sorry for being really pessimistic here, but I'm dreading this. >.<

Our season officially started last week (13 June). I wasn't able to go because I was at a Synergy camp. So, our next rehearsal is tomorrow and I get to meet all the new people and have a great season! We're actually having the same director for more than one year now (gasp!!) so things are looking up for us, after spending years as being dirt. People are starting to understand we need to work hard and be a team to become accomplished and have fun. They also like our new leadership team. So now I head off, to my first year as DM! It's not going to be easy all the time, but I get along great with the directors, other leadership and my fellow band members and there is pretty much open communication amongst us, so this can really be something great.

Well... rookies will be rookies, but from what i'm seeing, most of them are FREAKING AWESOME!!! A nice chunk of the clarinets have the parade tune memorized already (our first parade is at the end of July). We also have several rookies that are getting the hang of marching too.
At this point, I get to see everyone on Thursday and see how everyone's improved. ^_^

Haven't started yet, but 'awkward' is probably a good prediction, as we're going to be dealing with an over-the-summer convert from Clarinet to Tuba. >_>

It's a bit early for me to really tell, but I just found out that for one of our shows, we'll be performing with the Commandant's Own, which is the official Drum and Bugle Corps of the U.S. Marine Corps, and for those of you who haven't seen them perform, they're *really* good.
So that's exciting!

This week is when camp started for us and we're mostly learning music. Next week is when we'll learn drill. We already have one and a half songs memorized, so that's a plus.

Super excited. Band camp starts the 30th! We had pre-camp last month, and it was awesome. We're playing some really cool stuff, and since we're playing Army this year, they're bringing their band from West Point, and we get to play 1812 Overture on the field w/ them. I'm kind of in a scramble to get practiced up by the end of the month, though, because I've never played mello for a season before. It'll be interesting, to say the least... not to mention I'm playing 1st part and our parts go up to a high B-flat in a couple songs. Hmm.

lol. wow. today was day one of band camp and we are on a role. we did more things today than we have ever done before in 4 days. incredible stuff going one. new drills. this may seem like a no brainer to some bands but today we got the first song good with the line. the line never has music til week two. it was great. we are focused and despite all the troubles we have had this past week, it is great. it is funny....not funny haha but funny oh my, when we are setting up block and the the football layers come out and walk threw us. then the pointed and laughed. lol. thats bad to laugh about but if you knew all the things that has happened between the football team and band then you would laugh. can not wait til tomorow. we have amazing staff. some marched in corps. out composer is coming out next week to work with us and that is exciting. i cant wait. our football foeld just got turf so that will be incredible. well i have to go work on my one handed cut offs. fun fun! cant wait to hear how the rest of the saeson goes.

Our colorguard is about a million times better this year due to our amazing new colorguard instructor...he may be a little bizarre but he's good. Our show is definitely better this year, but the band is suffering in terms of musicianship and size.
