How do you convinse a drum major that holding up a baritone or euphonium is harder than a piccolo? We had a rookie camp today with the rest of the marching band for socializing and the DM wouldn't stop yelling at an incoming freshman. We had been at horns up for 15 minutes (the girl having never held a marching euph) and the DM was complaining that she wasn't being tough enough. How do you get them to get the picture?

^^ Exactly. Tell them to get use to it, or quit. May seem harsh, but that what marching band is. We would have to stay at attention for an hour if we had to.

lol I tried that but she says that the piccolo is hard to hold up because it's higher and nobody beleives that something that small could be heavy. My captian head will probably talk to our BD about it.

i say give the incoming freshmen a break. they're just starting and are not used to having to hold a horn up at attention for long periods of time. they will get it eventually.

The DM played piccolo. She's mean. I am saying that she SHOULD give the freshman a break. The season hasn't even started and she's getting yelled at for not holding her horn up.

Thats kind of crazy. Ecspecially if they are rookies. I would talk to your bd if things like that keep on happening.
