Well, that time has come again. You've made it through holiday season, All-State and districts, maybe a pops concert and now you're polishing your music for spring festivals. But what's this itch you have? Going through band uniforms for the smell, are we? Engaging in two-hour discussions of the show music? Learning the show music, on bells? Watching YouTube? Seeing the word "March" on your calendar and being disappointed?
Yes, ladies and gents, it's time for Marching Withdrawal 2009. Discuss your anticipation here, and what you're doing to belay the hunger to march.

Well, I've started to have dreams about our show music. In my latest dream, we had picked a really cool show with a long title. I really liked it. But my bd made me play tenor sax, not trombone. And then there was some weird kid marching with an alto clarinet.....
But, yes, it is officially the time of season when my bd listens to potential show music in his spare time and we start bugging him about next year's show.

I went into withdrawl the week after it ended. Now I'm just getting super excited every time I hear march or band or 'that band that played in march'. I've been dreaming about marching season every night too lol

I can't wait! I've had so many band dreams over the last couple of months. I have a DVD of our 3 best performances and I've been watching it a lot as of late. I'm counting down the days until band camp.

I just hoping we'll still have a marching band, as our district is **** poor and wants to cut it.
But yeah, I hope hope hope hope we have it. It's the only thing that keeps me sane and my chops up. Plus, I might be the one to inherit the rookie beating stick and sign the Declaration (trumpet tradition).
Anyway, marching band = <3

I personally love concert season way better but I'm still excited. (I play french horn and if you had to play the mellophone I have to you would hate marching season to. YOU CAN'T MOVE THE TUNING SLIDE!!! talk about a horrible intonation) I'm DM and I've been directing 24/7. I think I even do it in my sleep. If there's a song playing in a store I'll direct to it. (people look at you funny.) I'm so excited that were getting a new BD!! Hopefully he's not a basket case too. I'm so ready for change. I'm thinking/hoping things are going to change for the better. Can't wait!!!!

I like spring. We have concert season but also our one competition of the year. We get to march again and it's the seniors' last hurrah. Although we haven't even done a senior prank yet but whatever. But I am going to miss my HS band soooo much! Luckily I'm going to the University in town (University of Delaware) and their games are on Saturday so I can still go harass the band =D

I wasn't really in marching mode until Tuesday when the section leaders had our first organizational meeting, getting ready for the 2009 season. Being around some of the non-music majors I haven't seen in a while, talking about show lists and planning for band camp, my general excitement is now up to fever pitch. What could make it worse? Well, the weather is nice, so random members of the drumline will be practicing out by the band building, so I'll be walking to class and hearing random bits of the cadence. AND our highlights DVD from last season should be coming soon. I'll watch that thing like a million times between now and next season. Oh, and since we're talking about band withdrawl, you should watch this... www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fnQ-SLG3RMThis was made for our formal at the end of the 08 season. Most of the humor will probably go over your head, since you don't know the people that are doing it, but you'll get the idea. Actually, here's a little guide to the humor... 1:25, Zach does a high-chair step away from the camera, does a two count turn to the right (instead of four counts like he should have, slacker), and keeps on marching... 3:07, Nick performs our traditional game day stretch, I won't try to explain it, just that the end is where we yell, "What do we want? VICTORY! How we gonna get it? TOUCHDOWN!" 4:10, Mackenzie is currently in the act of being "pulled", we use an alternate system where players are chosen on a week to week basis based on music, marching, attendance, etc. Commonly, if you're pulled for pregame you take care of the Red/White/Blue banners during Patriotic Medley, thus her rant later on (and checking her chin angle, hilarious) 5:35, You have to understand, our director is amazing, and this little speech is COMPLETELY out of character for him. 5:40, This is how we are called to attention, and all Jeff wants to do is talk. BTW, Jeff *is* acting like himself in this scene. 6:15, On gameday, we are all provided a box lunch with a ham or turkey w/cheese sandwich, some chips, a water, and if you're lucky you get a snickers bar. However, since the game starts at 11:00, and our morning rehearsal starts at 7:00, we have to eat our lunch for the day at 8:30. 7:59, And why is this funny, you ask? BECAUSE THE TRUMPETS ALWAYS LOSE. WE'VE BEATEN THEM EVERY YEAR FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS AT LEAST. Hope that helps...

I am incredibly depressed that I won't have marching band next year (going to college). And yet I'm still getting that WHEN IS MARCHING BAND STARTING???!?!! feeling. I have no idea what the show is actually about, we just know what it is. This year, unfortunately, we're going to some camp in the woods and having cabins with 14 people in them. Nobody wants this. It's not cheaper and the food's probably worse (no offense to anyone that goes to them). We used to go to ESU and the food there is terrific. Not to mention the many traditions and memories there.

I can't wait for marching band. All the preseason preparations have begun (I consider the season starting this week). Section leader/drum major tryouts, they TOLD US WHAT OUR SHOW WAS!!! (NY Subways - name undecided - see 2009 shows thread).

i'm excited but sad at the same time. excited because i'm going away to college and marching, but sad because i have to leave my hs band behind. normally grads still hang around during the summer as well as come back for the home competition, but i'll be gone over their audition weekend in may, and i leave for school before their away band camp is over, so i can't see their first run-through of the season. i'm hoping that there won't be a football game on the home show weekend so I can come back for that.

I am really excited. I have been planning everything out...well maybe not everything. It has not been that bad for me because we have done a few days with marching band like a few parades and dm auditions. It is so hard becuase you will be practicing everyday and you get so close to everyone and then once the season is over you have nothing to do and I dont get to see a lot of people. I have been trying to help one of our seniors get over leaving. She is one of my best friends and it is hard to let her go and it is hard for her to leave. It will be hard becuase I have gotten sos close to all the seniors in so many ways and they are leaving. I wish I got to know them better. Our band is going through some problems right now and there is a lot to be done before the season but I love marching season so much.
