Okay today in band I could not get my lips to vibrate. I could get a note going barely but could not change it at all. Does this happen to anyone? What should I do if it happens again?

I used to have that problem frequently back around my first year or two of playing. I just had "off" days. They don't happen anymore, I don't really know what the deal is. I'd say air is most likely your problem, though. Make sure your lips are wet sufficiently, don't over-tense, and use plenty of air.

That happened to me a lot when I first started playing baritone. It goes away as you build endurance, usually. It happens to me sometimes when I come back from a long haitus of playing, but usually after a few minutes it comes back. It is weird, I do have to admit. The only real "cure" I have for this if you NEED to play (such as in band) is try buzzing your lips away from the mouthpiece. If you can't get that to work, well, you're kinda out of luck. Playiing while your lips are essentially "dead" is not going to help you and will probably end up hurting you anyways. My advice is when that happens, just step away from your horn and pronounce it as a free pass from practicing that day.

Thanks, it was wierd because nothing like that has happened since 6th grade band. I was probably just tired and I hadn't played my horn for a week.
