^Ditto. I have a sort of southwestern dialect, but I don't have any discernible accent. The only accent around here though is saying things like "over yonder" which I'm pretty sure is an act.

I guess I don't have one either since no one can remember that I'm not a Texan unless I say something like "I need to red up my room" or "Want to go with?" It seems like the people from the major cities around here don't really have an accent. Most seem to just have a general American accent (until they say "ya'll".)

I guess you switched accents with greenepony, although she's from western PA if I recall

I'm actually eastern/south-central. Depends on how central she means, if she means central ie Perry County she means you sound a bit like a hick (think western texas)

I broke down and accidentally said "ya'll" tonight... I feel so ashamed Yaaay! Yet another sucked into the Texas culture! Its in the water I swear. By the way, the "mark" of a Houston Metro accent, a true one, consists of 3 things: 1. You don't pronounce H- "youston" 2. Y'all and other regional colloquiallisms 3. Just a hint of a southern drawl, not much really. The problem is that we've had so many Yankees and Canadians come down due to oil that the accent has been diluted. Nothing against them personally, they're just making it easier to recognize dyed- in- the- wool Texans like yours truly.

Now, a Midwest perspective:
We actually don't think we have accents. We have phrases we say, but whenever we hear imitations of our alleged accents, they are so grossly overexaggerated that we have to laugh. When our band went to Boston a couple summers ago, and parade watchers saw our state on our banner, they all went, "OH! Them there's from Meen-eee-soh-tah, donchaknow?"
Actually, I've never heard someone say "Don't you know?" or "doncha know?" in regular conversation. And we don't sound Swedish.

Oooo yes the Midwest does! When I come home from visiting my mom's family in WI I have such a horribly strong accent. Long O's and some other stuff. And my family does say 'donchakno'. Of course they're really reaaaallllly far up north.

Hmm. See, we all swear there's no accent to be had here. Well, maybe the people who live up near Canada, but none of the lower-upper-Midwest people. I guess I'll only admit that we have subtle pronunciation differences from other English dialects, for lack of a better word. We say "melk" rather than "milk," that sort of thing.

^That is horrible. You must have watched too much Sesame Street in your formative years. "Mee- nee- sooh- tah" Yes, it does sound rather Swedish.

I don't think I have an accent. I've lived in the South for most of my life, but all my family live up in Illinois/Missouri, and the county I live in doesn't really have too many southern-accented people. The rest of the state does though lol.
