for the past year and a half i have had another family living with me they moved out a few days aago as did some of our more valuable stuff .My first flute from the fourth grade and my current flute that my parents are still paying off, was amongst these items . Those flutes i carryed with me every day of school that way i wouldnt have to use a school locker. They seemed to me like friends that i could just play and take my frustration out on. I am really sad that i probably wont see those again even if i still can use a school flute, dose anyone else have an emotional conection to their instrament or am i just really weird?

I have a $250 baritone, that I don't much care for, but yes, I have an attachment. I think instruments are kind of like cars; no matter what sort of crap they are, you kind of have to like them.

I definitely have an attachment to my Serie III alto, but also to my beginner alto. I never really realized how much I liked it until after i got my Serie III. Sure it's not that great, clicky keys, but I played it the other day and it was awesome. I also can't forget lugging that around as a tiny 6th grader once a week to band...I named my Serie III Zeik . Still haven't come up with a name for my beginner alto.

I only own my trumpet, which I don't really play anymore. I've instead been using a school tuba (which I've named Francine) and a school baritone (which I can't come up with a name for just yet), but I do have an emotional attachment. It'll be a sad day when i graduate soley because I'll miss these two instruments. My trumpet I have an attachment to, but since I hardly play due to the embochoure difference it's not as strong of a love.

Most certainly I do. But mostly to the two that aren't mine. (school oboe and school english horn) The oboe that actually belongs to me really isn't very good and when I try to play it anymore I just get frustrated because it's missing keys, lol. I'm thinking, though, of passing the english horn to someone else. I'm not sure whether this is an obvious choice and I should have done so last year or whether it's not a good idea at all and will cause drama and poor english horn playing. Certainly, it will cause me some pain to see Camille go, but then it was going to have to happen sooner or later.

Naw, you're not weird. My first piccolo was a solid silver Gemeinhardt, which I never use anymore because it's pretty much a piece of crap to me now. I probably should sell it, both because I need the money and because it pretty much has no use. But... I can't, because 1) I bought it with what was my life savings at the time, and invested a lot of myself as well into this thing when I got it. 2) I took it to Europe, and had some of my best piccolo playing experiences on it, including playing some of the picc solos for some really incredible crowds. So yeah, I'm emotionally attached, though I'm pretty much like that with all my instruments, not just this piccolo.

Marching is the one time I support the use of piccolos (don't tell fluttietuttie) because composers have a habit of giving really important parts to the one instrument that is never loud enough for those parts (the flute) and the piccolo just carries better. Anyways.

If I could only afford my own tuba.... Oh the world would be mine... Although I do love Francine. She's amazing. I wish she was a four valve tuba, perferably rotary valves, but her green duct tape case and dents make her mine. There's even an H carved in her case. I didn't do it, but I'll claim it nonetheless. (My name starts with an H.)

Even though I just got my alto sax this past summer. I've spent sooooooooo much time with her that it seems like years. My last sax (which was straight from a garage sale) had a key knocked out of place beyond fixing.... I actually cried. That day though my mom bought me Pippa. Brand new in July. But I march with her so that kind of scratched her up a bit. I think it gives an instrument character. She plays beautifully, and she is mine and always will be... well at least she will be when I pay her off in four years.

I love my clarinet. I named him Fred Bob. He's my baby, and once when he had to get a part replaced and I couldn't play him for a week, I cried. I don't let people outside of band hold him, not even in his case. And even when I let my band friends hold him, I make a point to tell them to be careful. My friend dropped him once and I screamed at her because his keys got all bent and my brand-new reed broke. Needless to say, I never let her touch him anymore.

I'm not very attached to my marching horn, but my French Horn is like my baby. :-) I'm very wary to let other people handle her (notice I used HER), even my friends and other horn players, lol.
