So....I'm at band camp right now, and just found out today that apparently a French film crew is going to be following us around for the next month. They're putting together a documentary about our band (as a representative of the typical U.S. college band), and how it relates to politics and the 2008 election. We're not entirely sure *how* the two are related, other than we're trying to get a bid to march in the Inaugural Parade, but other than that, our band really isn't involved in politics in any way, shape or form.
Anyhow, I find out it interesting, and thought you all might, too.

That sounds exciting!.. if a bit disconnected (it sounds a bit like something CNN would do)

Update: So, I talked to one of the assistant directors, and found out apparently the politics angle is actually kind of incidental to most of the film (or at least, that's how they're planning it). It seems this film has been in the works for a while now, and when it just so happened that the season they decided to document was the same year as a highly publicized presidential election, and so they figured they' d include that as well.
But, the film is mostly about the band. As it should be :-D.

That's pretty awesome. Leave it to the French to film an American band camp.

Update: The website for the documentary is finally out: www.filmsdulosange.fr/inter/uk_prochainement_marchingband.htmlIt debuts in Europe in early August, no idea when it'll show up here. Also, apparently they did focus a lot on the political aspect of it, but hopefully they'll have some good ol' regular marching band awesomeness.

As weird as it may sound, the whole "marching band" thing will probably be a totally new concept to some people in France. Music isn't really incorporated into schools much over there, so they don't have high school and college marching bands like they do here. Europeans also tend to be more appreciative of the arts (or in my experience, at least), so I'm sure there will be plenty of marching band awesomeness to go around! But anyway, that's pretty awesome!!

My French teacher, who lived in France for 18 years, said that they don't do marching band in France. D': They may be familiar with parade sorts, but they don't have competitions like we do in the U.S. Pretty cool though. I like the graphic on the website. Hehe :]

I watched the preview on that website, and to be honest, the way they are trying to incorporate politics is just plain stupid... there's no other word I can think of. They go from showing a marching band practice right to an Obama speech, and it makes absolutely no sense that someone would try to make a film encompassing them both.
