I love love love my Gemeinhardt flute. It's a 3BSH (solid silver head, gold lip, silver-plated body, open-hole, inline g, b foot... you know how I do!!) and I've been nothing but happy with it!! Although, I must say that I don't like Gemeinhardt's beginner flutes. Like, at all. I learned on a Selmer, and it did the job pretty well. Honestly, I haven't played a beginner flute in so long that I don't even know what I would prefer the best. Just not Gemeinhardt And my piccolo, ohhh my baby. I have a Roy Seaman with solid silver keys (and it's obviously grenadilla with a bulb-style headjoint, since it's an RS). I really wanted a Wm. S. Haynes, but the RS was a stretch on the dolla dolla billz. It counted as a gift for 2 birthdays, 1 Christmas, and high school graduation. When I played bassoon in high school, I played on a Fox that was a couple of decades old, I believe. I don't remember the model, but it was wood (thank *insert diety here*) and it had all the bells and whistles. It was the most beautiful instrument that I've ever played. The sound was perfect, everything worked well, and it gave me a musicgasm every time I played it.

I like Yamaha's. But, I haven't played on anything else. Besides a First Act. Which are really crappy and way cheap.

First Act, is that like BandNow that sells super cheap instruments that belong in a trash can? There are some... I think they're Chinese?... companies that change their names every few years so that when band directors make a "DO NOT BUY LIST" their brand won't be on them. I can't name any though.

I know at least one Indian company that's kind of like that, only their instruments are actually playable just not very good.

I have to specify mine, because only one of my favorite brands are on there. the one that I actually picked was Selmer, because I LOVE their saxes. I've also heard that their clarinets aren't so bad, either. the ones that weren't up there, though, were Pearl flutes and Emerson. I have a Pearl flute (I lovet their flutes... they're like my soulmates ), and an Emerson piccolo, and I love them both. Emerson piccolos, though... I don't like all of their piccolos. Just the model I have.

I have a 7th grade student who plays on a Venus flute... "Gold" Keys, Open hole B-foot "Gold" lip plate E-mech
Horrid instrument.
Gemenihardt is great for the new flutist. I learned to play on a 2SP. Selmer makes a pretty decent flute too. Armstrong used to be good way back in the day before I existed.
Right now I play on a Yamaha everything.
Yamaha 361H series Flute (open hole, silver head, b-foot) Yamaha 62C series Piccolo (Pro model. Gendella Wood. some other stuff) Yamaha YTS-475 series Tenor Sax (Int. Model. Some other stuff... I dunno much about sax)
But I'd really like to have a Miyuzawa flute one day... the keys are so light on those things... too bad one of their headjoints is like twice the amount of my flute ><
Never liked Jupiter Flutes. I just sound like crap on them... The flute picks the player I guess...

A friend of mine has an amazing plastic marching clarinet that she got new for like $600- its keywork is more balanced than an r13, which is amazing, but it's plastic. I can't remember the exact brand, but it was like andelan or andien, something like that. I'll tell you when I figure it out.

I can, Venus is one. Those things are terrible. I had a friend who bought a Venus tenor sax and piccolo (at least, I'm 99% sure it was Venus), and both were pieces of crap. When she got them, everyone was fascinated by the pretty colors (black with gold lacquered keys on both), but I was sitting there waiting for the things to break. (the tenor did, but she now has a different piccolo)

It's called andino, I found out. Hm there are a lot of kids in my band with off- color or vintage finish instruments. Amazingly they're all saxophones. Goooo fig.

I've got a Yamaha alto sax that I'm quite in love with. As for flute, I have an Altus Azumi model that is the best! or..well, for me it is. I haven't tried many flutes. All in all, I've had terrible experiences with Selmer saxes and Geimenhart (sp?) flutes. But, they were school instruments...so...yeah.
