Our one tuba is a hardworking farm girl...her predecessor was lazy as all get out though.
I play a baritone, which is close (bari's are sort of JV tubas in all respects), and I think we should move in with you guys since there isn't much low brass on here.

it's cause i'm more of a MAN than you... jk =] well i just can... i've been playing trumpet before i've even played a tuba, and that takes lots of air too. Maybe you have breathing problems? [idk just wondering] or maybe you guys dont practice enough breathing exercises or something.. but it's fairly easy. Fortissimo air through a tuba for a fairly long time isn't a super easy thing, but once you get used to it you've got it.

We never do breathing excersizes and I have whimpy lungs. Then again being a 5'3" female gives my own unique challenges when playing tuba. lol

I'm going to play tuba for concert season and I'm doing fairly well on it so far. It rocks.
The other two tuba players are your garden-variety lazy players and barely know how to play.

I picked up the tuba at church orchestra practice tonight, and I found out I can actually play it decently. I love the sound, and how it makes your chest vibrate on the really low notes.
