So, my band doesn't go to away games. I can't do this.
But, right before a competition, our section leader got us all little mini plastic clarinets!! One of our clarinet players had figured out the main theme of our show with it, and our DM threatened to take it away from him, because it was getting so annoying.

Last roadtrip, the way the schedule worked we weren't going to be having lunch, but one of our music section leaders made us all these little food bags with (you guessed it) tons of sugar-loaded candy and such. But we also had apples, so that was nice...

The clarinets have a tradition. Every football game, they have sugar cubes. And eat them. Only this year, the BDs don't allow them. So of COURSE at homecoming, guess what the clarinet section leader gives his section. . .
SUGAR CUBES.
All the clarinet returnees burst out in cheers and applause.

This reminds me of the jazz band trip last winter. I had had cookies for breakfast, then hot chocolate and another cookie, ice cream, more cookies, a brownie, and some cake. Then before we left Old Country Buffet, I ate 12 packets of sugar. My bd saw the empty packets and just said "That's enough." So I had to take packets from another table.
And then at a pep band or something we stopped at McDonald's and I totally dominated the baritone player at a sugar eating contest. My reeds must love me.

Do any of the rest of you do the 'secret bandy' thing where you're sign up and are assigned someone else (who signed up) to give stuff, mostly candy, to? At my school that generally causes ungodly amounts of sugar to be distributed through the band.

^ We do that at my school...the first away game, my Secret Sib (as we call them) gave me a pound of Twizzlers. =P And this competition, I was on cookie overload - my mom baked a bunch of cookies for the band (go band moms!), so I got four from that, two from her at home, and as it turns out, my Secret Sib gave me a package of twelve cookies. Oh, and there's a little pizza place right across the street from our high school that we usually go to after games and competitions. Well, they have packets of sugar there... =P

At my school that generally causes ungodly amounts of sugar to be distributed through the band. We do that too. They are our F.A.T. (Freshman Appreciation Team) friends. I give mine lots of candy (and flowers and other random stuff), but I have to be careful what I get her, since she's also kind of like my gf. But that's beside the point.

oh geez! i so wanna make that 'band camp brew' from that earlier comic!!! i told some of my friends that went to band camp with me that we should all bring in one of the ingredients to band camp and make a big batch of it!!! they were all for it, but it never happened lol! i did bring a 2 pound bag of twizzlers, 2 bags of gummy worms, caffeinated tea, and reeses pieces though! (my mom wouldn't let me bring pixie stix ) that is soooooo me! the sugar-crazed freshman clarinetist!!! ;D hehe, too bad we don't go to away games. that'd be so awesome! our homecoming game is this friday though, and they usually have coffee, so i wonder if they'll have sugar packets in the concession stands.... i love that sugar cube thing! i so wanna start a tradition of doing that with our clarinets cuz our clarinets are already crazy enough on their own!! that'd be so cool.

On our most recent jazz band trip, which was last Friday, we all got so hyper on sugar. It started with an ice cream sandwich at lunch. Then, my sax friends had a bar of chocolate and frosting, and we all had some. On our way home, we ate dinner. I bought a bag of gummy worms, chocolate, and various candy. But the most hilarious case was a trombone player who got a 2-liter, and chugged it before we got back to school. When the band director saw what he did, he made him stay behind and clean the bus.

-stare- okkkkk...=] all my section had that was sugar loaded as a..section i guess was; dairy queen during sectionals, and me eating pixy sticks on the bus pretending to be asleep, cause those greedy seniors were gonna steal them. =P And then before competitions we would buy cookies and vitamin water and twinkies. lol it really brings up memories. haha...x]

Yikes! I love band trips. The band bus, the auditorium, and just a lot of crazy things in general do go down.

I'm going to try the "band camp brew" (from the comic) recipe.

Man, this reminds me of a brew we used to mix together in high school- "Fauquier speed". It was Mountain Dew mixed with Pixie Sticks to the point of saturation. Truly noxious stuff....
