Do other people have a problem with their seniors thinking they are too good for the work involved? Like I'm in guard and the senior rifle twirler won't help put any of the equipment away just stands there and watches us and yells at us if we put something in the wrong bag or do it sloopy!!! Also we have problems with seniors not showing up for games or competitions cuz they have a sport thing going on or show up late to everything and not get in trouble! I think this is really unfair to the younger guard members like me who get stuck having to do all the work

Seniority to get on the bus first or get dinner first? Yes. Seniority to be lazy? No.
Kinda that they "get to do what they want" to an extent, but your seniors just sound lazy and un-caring. Seniors also have to teach their underclassmen traditions and how to succeed, not how to fail or be lazy. I'd talk to your guard captain or instructor about it if it's a big problem.

kind of early to be hitting the Senior Slide, isn't it? It seems to be causing problems for you and the rest of the guard, so I'd talk to your coach about it. Seniors are suppose to set an example for the younger kids, not order them around like slaves.

ya well there isn't much we can do... we all kno it's happening but the directors/instructors don't want to here it... the one senior though is nice and works hard teaches the newbies how to do things puts equipment away... it's just the one.... in fact we had practice today and i got so mad cuz the senior got the one 7th grader to carry all her equipment and when the 7th grader set it on the floor she came back and was like that should be in the closet it was pretty bad...

If you can't talk to the coaches and it becomes a real problem, talk to the band director. If there are problems in one section, it becomes a problem for the band as a whole.

I have been in the program for 4 years and spent my 7th and 8th grade years as a tag-alonge,making me the most expierienced out of everyone, short of the staff.I started as 1 or 6 freshmen flutes, by junior year i was the only one left.Total there are 9 seniors (last year we has 23). The rules are a little different for me, i can be late to most things,i can get out of uni early, i can get first dibs on bus, i can drink gatorade in uni (water only is our rule). I can make any one in any section take laps. i dont put away equipment .Short of going against the director, gaurd coach or assistant director i can get away with it.I am an assistant SL. Why? Because if i'm late it's because i was fixing uniform issues, drill issues, or helping someone deal with personal issues.I get first dibs on the bus beacuse the band parents know me and i'm often putting their stuff on the bus for them.I get out of uni early because i'm one of the people who checks the uniforms are hung correctly. The parents slip me gatorade.I dont put away equipment because 1) i'm cleaning the bus 2) they need to know how to do it correctly. We had a comp where all of our staff was out sick, we had the middle school teacher as our director, i had to tell him and the parents what to do so often i wasnt with th e rest of the band. try to consider what the gaurd riffle has been through, are they really lazy or do they do the stuff no one knows about? As a senior now i have put in my time, i remember the old dirt field without yard lines and drill that wasnt handed to you, i remember doing 50+ push-ups and 2+ miles a night from "give me 10" and "take a lap" after gettng off step.i remember holding attention when called and 3 am call times. So now to see kids barely take a lap a practice and not even able to do 25 push-ups, kids that dont know there show when they have yard lines, hash marks, center X's, and numbers, kids that cant even keep there head forward during competition parade, i dont really have respect for them.
