I have been accused by people of wanting to be a wanna-be drum major, and I have received some very negative comments having to do with that. I pretty much just help the drum majors set up and get all of their stuff together, though I will kind of practice conducting with them after practice if I have nothing I need to do and am just waiting for my ride. We have 3 drum majors, one is my boyfriend, one is a casual friend, and the other is kind of lazy, but he's still got some really good qualities. I am a section leader and I did try out for drum major, but didn't make it. The actual drum majors and band directors have no problem with what I am doing. I would really appreciate these comments to stop because I really try to avoid drama, especially with it just being the start of the season and we need to focus on teaching the freshman. Any advice?

Hmmm..... This is probably one of those times when you just tell the other people to shut up and then ignore them after that. You really can't do much about, but you know what they say, you can't argue with an idiot. And all those ther people are idiots. So just focus on training freshman like you want too.

Wannabe drum major? Of course you are! Why else would you try out? There's nothing wrong with that, so there's no reason for people to give you a hard time about practicing conducting with your friends.

^^ Agreed. With everyone actually. It probably is because the "others"(as we will call them) think the DM are giving you special attention, when actually they aren't. You ARE a wanna be DM, but whats wrong with that??? You tried out, so of course you are. XD Pretty much, you should tell them to shut up because they're prolly jealous because the others think you're getting special attention.
