Orch Dorks. The orchestra people. How do you and/or your band feel about them? If you are one is orchestra fun? At my school I only like a few of them (very few) because the other ones don't like me or anyone in the band because we're in band (they got some issues). Like two of them HATE me and I have never talked to them. One day they just told me they hated me because I was in band. I don't HATE them. HATE is such a strong word for people I don't know.(BTW I'm in junior high.)

Our band and orchestra have a great relationship! Most of the people in orchestra also do band/drumline/colourguard and then a TON of people in band do theatre... Junior high is typically like that... My high school is more relaxed so we don't have problems like that. Other teachers call us hippies. and not just because we did a Beatles show for 2008! haha.

^ lol my BD calls whichever section that messes up the most "Interesting People". One of the trumpets is all like "Hey! We're interesting too!"

I'm an orch dork. The deal though is that many people, especially those that play wind and percussion instruments, are already in band. So basically we have a mini band in the back while all the non-band string members are in the front. It's a lot of fun, but we tend to get strange looks from the string players a lot. Overall though we get along well.

At my school, the band doesn't hate the orchestra, but we don't really talk to them except when we need stands. The orchestra kids really hate us though because the orchestra room in our school sucks, but it's the old band room. They made us a brand new really nice band room. Plus, they get all of our old stands and stuff, they kind of get our hand me downs because band is a lot bigger than orchestra at our town.

Our band and orchestra have a pretty good relationship with some healthy rivalry. We've got both the best string program in the area (maybe the state) and the best marching band of our kind about anywhere (not to be so pompous, but there are very few other summer marching bands... I think we're the only circuit, and we're the best in it, so...). We do have a symphony orchestra as well, which I think helps the relationship.

in my school it really depends. at the middle school orchestra and band really don't like each other because there's no specific orchestra room (we have to rooms, one is for band only and the other is mix), so the setup is really weird for orchestra. at the high school we tend to ignore each other except for wind ensemble and concert orchestra (along with concert choir as well) who play symphony music together sometimes. at least, that's the band perspective. i think orch dorks tend to dislike band because band programs usually get more funding and have larger programs in general. but that's not band's fault. they have more fundraising opportunities. plus, the school decided that instead of new school cellos and basses, they bought a new recording system for the orchestra room. we haven't used it yet and we've had it for a month. we did eventually convince them to purchase three new cellos!!! woot!!!! although that still doesn't make up for the all new marching tubas, baritones, and mellos, as well as bass clarinets and bari saxes that the band dept. got. but i'm not complaining. i play viola, so i don't need a school instrument anyway.

I love about a 1/16 of our orchestra, the other half could go jump off a cliff and I wouldn't know otherwise (Not that I'm wishing that upon them by any means.) I'm friends with three violins and the string bass. I adore one of our little freshman violins. He's so adorable. We're trying to get him to come to band. He'd make the perfect baritone, but alas, he won't.
