I'm juggling the idea of instrument stereotypes. My question is does your personality bring you to the instrument? or does the instrument build your personality? Most stereotypes (atleast what I've observed) are true. yes some fall out of the category but really if you look at it every instrument has a personality that goes with it. My idea of instrument personalities: Trumpet...big ego French horn...nerdy, intelligent Flute...quiet, delicate Tuba...big guy, trouble maker Baritone...funny Trombone... loud Saxophone... umm that's a tough one, any ideas?? Bassoon... quiet Clarinet... girly Oboe...CRAZY percusionists...loud, hyper, trouble makers
What do you think??

Same for my band, but clarinets have a big ego here just like trumpets. Their the nerdy type that thinks they are better than everyone. In my band it also goes more by section than intrument, but you still see people turning into baritones and tubas.

Honestly, my band is so totally stereotypical, ,like we have the few in each section where it's like, WHY IS SHE PLAYING FLUTE? SHE'S A FRICKIN TRUMPET! but it's sort of depressing how we're like that...

The musician doesnt choose the instrument. the instrument chooses its musician. little quote of mine. I'd have to say the stereotypes dont always apply. I barely fit into the trumpet stereotype. for one, I am quite humble. proud of my skill, yes, but im humble about it. I know for a fact Im the top trumpet player at my school, but do I let it get to my head? hell no. I hate cocky people, why would I want to turn into one myself?

Not my band at all. Flutes- Crazy loud freaks but we're the best flute section the band will ever have. Clarinets- Once again, crazy loud freaks. A very together section, always having fun. Oboes- Quieter of the bunch, but they do have a sax among them. Saxs- Almost as egotistical as the trumpets, but not as bad. Bassoon- Quiet. Trumpets- Way to suck. Very egotistical, but for no reason. French Horns- Ha, we don't have any. Baritone- Loud obnoxious guys who can't march for their lives, and the SL is so full of himself. Percussionists- Never follow the rules but still kick out some awesome beats.

Trumpet... most are nice. Some are vulgar though. French horn...nerdy, intelligent Flute... girrrrrrrlllly girls, insanely good guys and an Asian. Tuba... not often there, most likely to be involved in another sport besides band Baritone... quiet or a jv trombone Trombone... troublemakers X 1000 Saxophone... Crazy!!!! Bassoon... awesome, often Mormon (that's not bad its just strange how many are) Clarinet... fight! fight! fight! Oboe... 2 would- be drummers, one who fits into the bassoon s.t. well percussionists... will hit ANYTHING with a stick. WHOOPS!! Forgot: Trombones and male tubas in our band are also majorly perverted to the point of intolerability. They find innuendo in the word "nougat". Drum majors: Seriously, They. Are. All. Mormon. For like the last 10 years. I have no idea why but it's true. Thankfully it means they're all really nice people who wouldn't hurt a fly.

Ours are mainly JV trombones. Like seriously. They are wannabe troublemakers. But they cannot compare to a group of which all have the talent to perform a complete 360 in a marching block and stay in step so well as to be not noticed by the bd. Thankfully we are losing most of the worst troublemakers to graduation this year.

my band: Trumpet... nice people. outgoing. love joking around. the kind of people that plot evil things when youre not around. French horn... the Class Clown Flute... Serious business. no seriously theyre always at eachothers throts most of the time...at least the first few chairs are... Tuba... lolwut? Baritone... the quiet ones. Trombone... the crazy obnoxious people. the first ones to say "thats what she said" Saxophone... peaceful, but wont stop playing ska! Bassoon... quiet and shy Clarinet... always at the throat of someone else. Oboe... Quiet and shy percussionists... lolwut? oh look, sticks! Drum majors: Serious business "take no sh**" hard ass leaders. its always been that way thankfully.

Flutes-tend to think they're the best section in the band, don't know their drill in general
Clarinets-like to think they're hard core, but they're not, also kind of ditzy
alto saxes-laid back
tenor saxes-no one really notices them or forgets they're there
trumpets-don't really follow the whole big ego thing, but still think they're the cat's meow
mellos-have the most band spirit, work hardest, and are the section that everybody loves; they organize dress-up nights
low brass-lazy
Drum Line-hard core and like trumpets, think they're the cat's meow
Pit-laid back or sometimes lazy
Guard-some think they're the cat's meow and others could really care less

Flute- Um mostly your average preppy/stuck up girls. I get along with all of about 2 flutes.[BFF & a Senior Girl] Clarinet/basses<3-So we have been dupped "worst section". We really don't have a steryotype, there is a big rang of personalities. Oboe- Nice/sweet girls. Basson-The 3 of them have no similar trait that comes to mind now. Alto sax-Most of them are stuck-up & annoying. The only ones I like double just for marching.[oboe & clarinet] Tenor Sax-There's 4. The top 2 are pretty awsome. I never talked to the bottom 2 even though they sit right behind me. Baris-There pretty quiet. Trumpets-Average "egotistical" trumpets. Baritones/trombones- Don't care. Lazy. Tubas- Um it's a even split between work hard & really lazy. Percussion-Uh average hyper/lazy perc. kiddos.

Clarinets... Not true... we have a guy in the section and he's not girly at all... I'm also a in the section, and a girl... and I hate being girly.
Here's the run down.
There's really nothing to say about each section individually, it just depends on the day.

A 360 with a trombone? That's really impressive.

Flute- slutty! i am a flute and not at all a skank but for the most part they like short shorts and have dated 1/2 the percussion by end of freshmen year. They volunteered to do advertising for the boys vs girls car wash for a reason. Clarinets-They fight like crazy, these are the ones most likely forced into band by mommy and daddy. The SL is either the one who doesn't care or cares too much. They are the only section ive known to have therapy sectionals during band camp.(therapy sectionals are where everyone sits in a circle and discusses the section problems) Trumpets- this is the instrument for the difficult kids, they always talk back to the director and are physically incapable of self control, they simply cannot shut up. Saxes- the what? section. They never know whats going on and are in their own little world. The one that actually practices will automatically make it to first chair then will be out of tune. They also never watch the director. French horns- they ALL play lacrosse and have developed a secret club and inside jokes.Easy going as long as you never touch their lacrosse stick Low brass - the most mature section, they can play everything so they get a lot more free time in class and have consequently developed a homework club in the back of the room. They are often board and switch instruments. Also have all taken AP music theory Percussion- the dating source for the freshmen flute, they also serve as the band transportation as they all can drive and are generous in ride giving.Fairly adept at keeping the beat although very spazzy so they have a separate class from the brass and woodwinds
I know these dont fit to all people but they fit well for my band at least

A 360 with a trombone? That's really impressive. They have been practicing since freshman year. We always do military block routines during playoffs, and every year except their sophy year, we went all the way to the state game...
