Anyone else have them or is it just my band that does?
There's this freshmen flute player that always feels like she needs to tell me to shut up when I have just made a single comment about something. Really ticks me off. It makes me want to throw my instrument on the floor and walk out.

^ It's not worth the damage to the instrument, I promise lol.
But yeah, there's always kids like that. Not always freshmen either...

The only freshman that really bugs me is the one that was one of only two freshman to make a drum on drumline who decided to quit AFTER band camp and when we were relying on him for our formations and our music.
Why? He made the freshman soccer team and didn't want to commit to both marching band and a sport unlike the dozens of other kids who play a fall sport and march.
Besides him, I'm cool with most of our freshmen.

We have this one freshman that annoys almost everyone. She plays clarinet and we call her Granny (she looks and acts like someone's granny in the ways she sits, talks, everything). She thinks she knows everything but she really doesn't. Grr!

Dude, you hit college, and some Freshmen are still annoying sometimes! And I am one!
There's one flute player who has it in her head that she is in charge just because she's a music major. Um, no. She is not the best player (I'm about the same skill, and I struggle with some of the music), she is not the only music major in the section, and she is not that nice. I can't count how many times she tried to tell me how to march in fall. Um, hello! You don't know the marching technique either! Seriously, it was the FIRST DAY, and she was telling me that I wasn't in my spot. Really? Does she know where I'm supposed to be? 'Cause I'm the only one with my chart, and if you're supposed to be off the yard line and you're on it... well, that's really gonna make me listen to you.

It's only before we start a piece we're working on. Comments like: "Hey, let's take it from measure 50." or "Why don't we take it 1 measure before letter C?"

Not so much the freshman. Mostly the Juniors and Seniors here. They are all really arrogant. I'm currently the only tuba now, as a sophomore, because the other two (one junior, one senior) dropped. So when we're tuning the bari sax player just loves to play along with my note and tell me to push in or pull out. Um excuse me, I know what I'm doing. I've been tuning the band for the last two years, and now you start to be a jerk about it. I know you don't want me in here, but just shut up.

heh. one of the other freshman (im also a freshy) that made it into our marching band decided that it was always more important to study for tests in other classes than show up for marching band in the morning. i swear, during our thriller show, i was more used to the hole next to me than having him there.
and in high school, one of the people in my grade. she made section leader just because she always tried out for it and i never did since our section would listen to me anyway without the title. anyway, she thought that since the made SL that she knew everything and would always critizise us on our playing even when the rest of us could play just as good if not a little bit better. and in a minor solo at the end of our senior year show i got the baritone part of a small group instead of her, and apparently she complained very "vocaly" about it behind my back, saying she was so much better than me and should have gotten it instead.

Please, never again say "freshy". If people at your school mock the freshmen, as they do at mine, they will mock you ten times more if they hear you say that. Gosh, I don't even really mock the freshman, but when I hear one of you guys say that I just want to shove a head down a toilet. (Ok, that sounded more harsh than I meant it to, but I really do hate that word, if you can call it a word.)
We have a freshman French Horn, and I'm about to strangle her. She has such a little prissy attitude. She thinks she's so special because she's in Marching Band as a freshman (We audition them in.), and she thinks she's better than many of the sophomores. SHe seems to forget that this is the FIRST year we've let freshmen in marching band, so it's not that those sophomores aren't talented, it's just that she lucked out. (Plus, auditions aren't hard here either.)

So, there is this Freshman trombone player. He's really rather, well annoying. I just wish there was some way for him to get he's not an eighth grader anymore, he's a high school freshman, and in the band. I mean, the eighth and seventh grade band aids aren't as annoying and immature as he is. And it's getting worse by the day. He's quit listening to the band director and Assist. Is there anything you guys have done to finally get freshmen to realize this stuff and get them to quit being so annoying and immature?

Oh the stories I can tell, the stories I can tell...
-stupid cymbal player who made inappropriate advances on his scared girlfriend -trumpets who think it's fun running around freshmen band pretending their trumpets are guns and shooting each other -the clarinetist who stole my water bottle at wind ensemble tonight and threw it at me when I chased her, hitting my head and giving me a lovely flaming red lump -The DM gave me permission tonight to kill freshmen after said incident =D

I use the term freshy because i am slightly disgraphic (cant write) and have trouble spelling freshmen (also does, goes, business, and Mesopotamia) so no offense is meant. Bandnerd, you sound kind of cocky saying things like "our section would listen to me anyway without the title"- it takes guts to try out and you should respect that.I've been a section leader without the title but it should be done with an agreement with the SL - our deal was i ran the social aspect, getting people to do things, and she ran the more political side, dealing with the director or other sections or paperwork. That way the section didn't have to deal with our drama.I don't intend to insult/criticize you and could be reading the situation the wrong way but that is how it came across to me. Freshys will always be annoying to some extent, it comes from there being generally overgrown middle schoolers. They simply are not mature enough to understand the high school dynamic and need to be taught what is expected of them for the most part they get it by 2nd semester.I personally hand out graduation cupcakes to most the freshys after our first concert.

There was this one freshman kid, some scrawny ginger kid we got this year who started off pretty cool then he started acting like all of the seniors were like his best friends.... he got really annoying , especially with my boyfriend, our drum major. He never showed up to rehearsal and always had some stupid excuse why he couldnt show up, and when he did show up, all he did was give attitude to his section leader and do what he wanted and be defiant towards all the other leaders and band parents. he was the weak one on the feild with their horn always down instead of held up who always fidgeted and looked around and kept adjusting himself, even at competitions and it looked really bad. it finally got to the point that our assistant director couldnt take it anymore and cut off the dead weight that kept dragging us down. funny thing is, the following competition we broke 80 ( we scored an 82), which had been our goal since my first year marching, and we wom overall grand champ, and we only kept going up from there.
This kid is gone now, he joined the ROTC, and im amazed they havent gotten sick of him yet.
