Okay, I really need some unbiased opinion, because I think I'm the only one thinking this way.
So, BD 1 has been MIA since the holiday concerts (middle of December). MB BD is a music sub, so he's been subbing for us since then. He also is in charge of drumline and the girls lacrosse team. But, as BD 1 is still gone, the school held a meeting and decided to get a permanent sub until he comes back (if he ever does).
Thing is, MB BD didn't get it. And now he's throwing what I believe is a stupid fit. He's not going with us on a trip to Europe over spring break (It's optional, and it's $2,195) because it'd "be too hard".
But the thing that's appalling to me is that he is quitting drumline and lacrosse. Yes, he's leaving drumline to another director and a few techs, and leaving the lacrosse team without a coach. He keeps saying that it's to move on with his life.
Am I the only person that thinks that's immature? I mean, he made the commitment, and now he's backing out. Everyone else, sans the parents as they expected this (he quit during marching band for a week over a nasty email), is sympathizing with him. Should I be, or is the MB BD just throwing a hissy fit?

I completely understand him not going on the Europe trip. $2,000 is A LOT of money (it wouldn't buy me a new horn, but it'd help). Especially if he works another job and has to miss a week's worth of wages to go on the trip.
Maybe he had been thinking about getting a job somewhere else and the board's decision to not hire him as a the permanent sub was just the nudge he needed to move on. He could be having a midlife crisis and wants to do something else.
Also;; you give him the title of "MB BD." Which leads me to believe that maybe concert season wouldn't be his forte...

I don't find this as immature. He didn't get the job, so why would he stick around if he isn't going to be paid? It's also kind of a slap in the face, as he was the substitute for such a long time that he PROBABLY should have been first in liine to recieve the perma-sub position (though lots of factors go into that decision).
Him up and leaving is ok, I see. It sucks because now you don't have the techs or coach for the lacrosse team now, but you wouldn't have them now anyways because why would he stick around just to tech and coach? I mean , this sounds awful but those don't pay very well (they pay AWESOME for a college student however, lol). He's going to need a steady job, and while he may not have wanted to leave, if he has no job then there is no need for him to stay put.
