Ok so this year for pit I have to transpose a Viola part into a Clarinet part. (Which is also known as the Cliola part .) I was wondering if anyone ever had to do anything similar.

I just played Brahms Symphony No. 2, which just happens to be written in the keys of D and H Basso. I can handle the D pretty easily (just down a third), but the H Basso (key of B-- up an augmented 4th and then down an octave)... I don't know if the word we've used to describe it is board-legal...

I like, being a euphist, the only real time I've ever had to transpose is from C treble to C bass.

Viola parts work better for alto clarinet. The range is more suitable. But if you intend to use it, you need to know that trans is a major 6th, because alto is in Eb.

I hereby call for a sticky topic that contains the keys of most common instruments and how to transpose.

Yeah, I'm in a chapter of my theory book right now that is all about transposing between instruments. Luckily for you the viola is a concert pitch instrument. Not like transposing between Horn and Trumpet, etc, where you have to to multiple transposition.
