I went to my high schools the football game to chaperon/help out with the band. So after the game my former band director came out and waited with me until my parents came to pick me up, because I was the last one out there. my parents were 2 minutes away so he told me that he is going to go take things to his car and will come back and wait with me so he said "stay in a lighted area so I can keep an eye on you." I didn't have a problem with it. I graduated though. Is it really necessary if your a former student? With current students I can understand, but former students?!?!?!

My bds used to do that. I remember last year sitting outside after a late jazz rehearsal. It was really foggy, and I was waiting for my parents. My bd went out to his car but had me stand next to a lightpost. He got in his car but waited for me to get into my parents' before he pulled out of the lot. My freshman year bd always waited to leave till everyone had a ride there, too. I think it's a liability issue more than anything for the school.

In high school the directors were required to stay at school until everyone's ride came- even if that ended up being after midnight.

I guess our BD is required. Last year, they didn't really stay, so I didn't really care. This year, though, we have a new director who is probably forced to stay. And he just complains most of the time about how we should have had them come earlier, blah blah.
Usually, I just walk to my brothers apartment so I don't have to listen to him complain, or just walk to the apartments across the street until he leaves. It's all good because we have lights everywhere.

I am not sure if my BD is supposed to stay. He always stays so much later than all of us (if you drive by the school at midnight, his van is usually there). Although, I think he has left before all of us. We all hangout in the bandroom and we generally get kicked out at some point.

Well, band directors are basically viable for you in those sorts of events. They can't just leave the building if you still haven't left. Liability reasons for you and the teacher. It happened to me alot, but me and the BD just talked while I waited.

Both of my directors live within 3 blocks of my house. They've given me rides home before.

I have other teachers that do this. y band director never really needs to for us. We split before traffic gets bad, or if it's a good night we all leave early to go out to Shari's for dinner together...lol. We beat him before he needs to wait.
On the other hand, like I said, my Latin teacher constantly has students waiting after school in his room getting help. He'll wait generally, or if not that lock the door, go home and just let us hang until parents get there. He's given a few students rides before.

Our BD is always the first one gone. Well my bd wasn't even hired to be the bd...he was hired to be the technology director...hence why he doesn't give a **** about the band.

I believe that at least one of the teachers is always there before we leave. But we often arrive before any adults do. We very often have to wait around for someone to unlock the band room.

Well my BD has told us he loves each and every one of us. We have very strong bonds in our band family with one another. Im sure he just cares for you as a person and wants to make sure your okay. I think thats very nice.
