Lately we've some very annoying little freshman have been kidnaping rifles from the guard room b/c they think they're "toys". Does this happen to anyone else? (we really need to think of something b/c this is getting out of hand.)

Start stealing their stuff. Or put locks on them. Or get the BD involved and have them written up.

Start stealing their stuff. Or put locks on them. Or get the BD involved and have them written up. A)That would be sinking to their very low level B)It happens when we're practicing and need the room open C) Our BDs going to the Czech Republic for a year. So yah there in lies the problem

hmmm... if you have any really old rifles, you could take one that's almost broken and make it look all enticing. then when they play with it it breaks and they freakout. lol. j//p.
but umm.. hmm... we have the same problem. we also have problems with the band members thinking that they're entitled to practice in the guad room, throw our stuff out of the way, and leave chairs and stands in there for long periods of time. we've begun to keep the room locked during practice but unlock it before and after. we take all our nessessary equipment with us to the field and leave the rest locked in the guard room. =]]

We don't have that problem. We make it VERY clear to band kids that YOU DO NOT TOUCH THE GUARD EQUIPMENT UNDER PAIN OF DEATH. and trust me, if any non-guard person goes in the guard room (whether the band directors told them to or not, because that's a problem too), I yell at them. I've continually stressed that no one but guard members and band directors can enter the room. If you need to enter the room, get a BD to do it, or find a guard member.
It's worked well enough.
The guard room gets locked during outdoor practice, and it's not very good for doing anything other than storing equipment and straightening hair in. It's funny, cause most kids at my school think it's a faculty bathroom.

lol our room doesn't really have that issue...mostly because our director locks it during school, and nobody is really interested in our equipment anyways. the only issue we have is that the chorus decide to break into it to use the mirror. lame. the mirror is tiny and old and marked up. they can't use the dressing rooms?! anywho, thats my only complaint, so i guess we're lucky in that aspect.
the only thing i can say is what others have said: get everything you need for practice and take it to wherever practice is being held, and lock the room behind you. and make sure if anyone needs to get anything during practice, they lock the door when they're done.

Yah we have a joke that even if coach isn't there she rise from the ground (like the wicked witch of the west) smite the band member that was dumb enough to touch the flag and sink back in the same manor.

EEK they're actually dumb enough to touch gaur equipment with out permission! WE have a cure for that.Get an old beat up rifle/flag/saber and make them spin it, they cant go until they can toss a single.WE tell parents angry that they're kid is late that they should'nt have messed with the equipment. It only takes a few self inflicted bruses and they either join gaurd or never touch them again

we don't have that issue with non-guard kids stealing our stuff, but we share our storage room with the drumline and occasionally the drum majors stash their podiums in there. it gets really messy especially in the winter when we have our floor and props and drumline doesn't bother to put the pep band drums back in the cases, especially the ignorant freshmen. what's really annoying is that the carts Pit uses to carry out the timpani get stashed in there during the off season. drumline loses a whole wall of shelving and therefore most of their stuff ends up on the floor.

oh wow... that IS messy. we have our own room but often the bd lets certain kids take stands and chairs in there to practice. the only problem is they LEAVE it in there. i wish the bd would stop unlocking it for them.

well, i was talking to one of the section leaders today, and apparently the band room has been rearranged so that drumline and pit can put their stuff in there, and we get the storage room to ourselves!!! yay!! but, we have to clean it up within the next week or so. although that's always fun because sometimes we find these ancient, hideous costumes and flags from the 90's.

oh wow. good job epguardchk09. that's gonna be soooo much fun going through. haha one of our guard mom's was asked to go through our guard room and clean out anything that we can't use or sell. we ended up getting rid of these horrid uniforms from our prince of egypt show my freshman year. [[the guys who made them messed them up so they turned out sortof hideous. i'll put up pictures later]] then she threw out flags that were either torn up or there were only like, 4 or 5 of left. haha. so like, two years before my freshman year they did this show called Car Tunes and had these really cool black and blue uniforms. so i got a couple random flags from my years in guard, an extra egypt uniform, and a uniform from car tunes. hopefully we'll find some other random things. a year or so ago we found these HIDEOUS uniforms from like the 80's and 90's. omgsh. faded school colors and everything. yikes. a couple trumpet and tuba guys put them on and wore them to practice that evening.
